About Me

I am a trained musician who has been playing drums professionally for almost twenty years. I have logged thousands of hours on the stage and lots of time recording in studios. I play a wide range of musical styles including: rock, jazz, afro-cuban, brazilian, soca and calypso, reggae, funk, R&B, soukous, and big band.I have played from Maine to Florida and toured in Europe. I have performed at numerous music festivals which include: The Duracell Jazz Festival, The Gathering of The Vibes, The Cherry Blossom Festival-NYC, Falcon Ridge Festival, Scotty Palooza, Winter Hawk, Camp Creek Festival, SONO Arts Festival, Wormtown Music Festival, and The Oyster Festival to name a few.Over the years I have played at a variety of venues ranging from the mundane to the bizarre. Some of the more interesting ones include: New York City roof tops, the decks of ships, The World Trade Center, The Breakers Hotel, The Water Club, Foxwoods Casino, Tavern on The Green, Garden State Arts Center, Trump Castle Casino, The Vanderbuilt Estate, Swiss Bank, World Yacht-NYC, Yale University, Union League Club, Princeton University, River Keepers, NYU, Lyndhurst Mansion, Liberty Science Center, Natural History Museum, Madison Square Garden, Columbia University, Silvermine Inn and Tavern, Mohegan Sun Casino, Central Park Zoo, Seton Hall University, The Bronx Zoo, The Colony Club-NYC, Hofstra University, Mystic Seaport and Aquarium, Boscobel Mansion, The Arden House (Harriman Estate), Oheka Castle, Penn Station, Democratic Fundraisers, Grand Central Station, Rutgers University, Ellis Island, Ritz Carlton NYC, Botanical Gardens, Marriot Millenium-NYC, Chelsea Piers-NYC, Rockefeller Center, Javits Center, and even an aircraft carrier. Band Members: In 2000 I wrote "1001 Drum Grooves - The Complete Resource for Every Drummer" which is published by Cherry Lane Music/Hal Leonard Publishing. This book presents 1,001 drumset grooves played in a variety of musical styles, past and present. It's ideal for beginners seeking a well-organized, easy-to-follow encyclopedia of drum grooves, as well as consummate professionals who want to bring their knowledge of various drum styles to new heights. Author Steve Mansfield presents: rock and funk grooves, blues and jazz grooves, ethnic grooves, Afro-Cuban and Caribbean grooves, and much more.
