Welcome Abraham

About Me

The name Welcome Abraham was given by my great great grandfmother, an Alabama Choctaw, to her son, my great grandfather. All ten of her boys were given the first name Welcome so they would be welcome everywhere they went. I was born in Nashville, spent childhood summers in South Carolina and Alabama with both sets of Grandparents, and grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. My parents were always listening to folk, bluegrass, soul, classical, classic rock, pop, country, and traditional irish music. Since I was sixteen, I have found a pure joy and rush through writing. Now I am almost entirely consumed by the urge to write pop, rock, and country songs on guitars and pianos. Lately my focus has been on honoring my old songs by writing way better ones. My first release was a two song E.P. cassette in 1993 entitled "Fools Gold." After joining the class of 99 University of Pittsburgh for a BA in Poetry writing I submerged myself in music and writing. I am currently co-writing with artists and writers in Nashville and at home in the city of bridges. I play shows with my band, Welcome Abraham, as an acoustic duo (Slater/Shannon), and solo. I've been busy working with Broadcastlane studios, Skip Sanders Productions, and Treelady Studios as I attempt to set my songs down in high quality recordings.
