Hard Body Click is a marriage of hip-hop and reggae performed to upper mid tempo reggaeton instrumentals. The group, which consists of Armani (me), Gorgon, Wiz, and Demon, was formed on April 23 2006, where both me and Gorgon were performing at the Music Notes Showcase at Remote Lounge in NYC. Impressed by each other’s performances, we started collaborating over instrumentals produced by DJ Daze out of Florida and recorded "Welcome to the Third World" in like four weeks.
Gorgon started to deejay chant reggae music at age 12 in Flatbush, Brooklyn, supporting himself by selling weed. As a young man he had to leave Brooklyn for Connecticut, after an altercation that almost left him with a murder charge. He focused his aim on music, performing in front of thousands and selling his mix tapes underground. When things in NY settled down, he moved to the Bronx and started doing shows all over the city, building his reputation in both the reggae and hip hop communities.
I was born in Iran – my father was a professor and actively involved in the Iranian revolution – my family soon fled to the US with whatever would fit in a suitcase and started over. As a kid I studied piano and mathematics – I was one of the 40 top science students in high school, got three degrees from MIT, and then began working as a trader on Wall Street. While in New York, I started going to hip hop open mics and showcases and eventually developed my style that "incorporated [my] experiences in tight multi syllabic rhyme patterns." (Its weird to hear people describe you, but when the shit sounds fly, why not use it?!)
To me, a beat is a mathematical puzzle – there’s lots of ways to get from one end to the other, and what drives me is finding the most elegant path.
I hope you enjoy the results, and thanks for listening.
