Southern Dirge began as a 5 piece back in 2005. Three of those members still remain, Ed on drums,Barry on bass &Johnny on guitar.After the original singer and second guitarist left for their own reasons,Southern Dirge carriedon for a while as an instrumental 3 piece,not one of those fiddly fiddly diddly guitar wank instrumentalbands,this was just straight up fucking metal without vocals.
The lads knew what they were lackingso they went about getting a singer,after leaving about 5 or 6 people audition for the 'acclaimed' (ha!) spot,anold friend of Johnny's got the job.
Roll on Dots McCarthy, the fucking lunatic,what better to have as a vocalistthen a mad Mayo man with a serious motherfuckin' chip on his shoulder.
Dots took his time getting hismaterial together to go over the songs that the lads already had,over a period of a couple months of him layingdown some his lyrical foundations,they decided to go for gigs with Dots at the helm.A brief four date tour wasorganised between Southern Dirge, the legendary,Violent Jack & the mighty FiveWillDie at the end of the summer2006.The performances Dots threw down on each of those gigs was enough to keep him in the band permanently,theother three knew they had finally made the right choice.
Skip to the present day (the last couple of years consisted ofgigs,sweaty,dirty,filthy gigs) Southern Dirge have an album recorded,their first major recording and should be outby summer 2009......Hopefully.
