First off i must say im not native american, i just happen to play native american flutes and have a deep love for this amazing instrument as well as the culture of the native american peoples and indigenous peoples from around the world. The amazing rhythms and musical instrument that can be found within these cultures are really one of my main inspirations.Ever since I first heard the haunting sound of the Native American Flute when I was in america, I fell in love with it and realised i had to get my hands on one. So I brought one back from one of the powwow's I went to while I was there and started from there. Now I have over twenty five flutes and four albums out.The Native american Flute is a wooden pentatonic instrument that was traditionally used as a courting instrument and for important ceremonies. And I try to bring the real deep spiritual nature of this instrument into my music. They say traditionally that the flute maker uses the heart of the wood to make the flute so that the flute player can put their heart into the music when they play.The first album i made 'Calling Down The Stars' Is pure flute music over 60 minutes long with flutes or various keys.The second 'Summoning the Spirit' was done in conjunction with Chris Conway, Michael Looking Coyote and I, and is released by paradise music. It is aimed at being a tribute to the native american people and It combines spoken word philosophy from native american great leaders like Black Elk, Chief Joseph and Crazy Horse spoken by Michael, with my own flute melodies and Chris's musical soundscapes created with percussion keyboards and vocals to name but a few.
The third 'Owlsong' is a guided meditation album with 3 meditations from a international mudium friend of mine Mellanie Polley, with my flute music in the background.The fourth is called 'Reconnection' and is mainly flute music with some skin drums and djembe and vocal's. Using the imagery of a tree's and the traditional storys and tales from many diverse cultures this album takes the listener on a journey from the deep roots to the tall branches and back.I am currently working on my fith album which should be out next year sometime.
