DEAN STREET STUDIOS

About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorDean Street Studios has had many identities over the last few decades. As far as we can trace back, we found its life started as a film studio in the 1950’s.
In 1976, the wonderful and legendary Tony Visconti bought the lease for the studio and it became his ‘Good Earth Studios’. Tony had secured his place as a well-known producer for artists such as David Bowie and TRex and recorded albums with them in the studio, here in Soho.
Other Artists to record at Good Earth studios include: Thin Lizzy, U2, Moody Blues, Adam Ant, Prefab Sprout and The Alarm amongst many, many others.
Tony then, in 1989, passed the lease onto a production house named Joe & Co. They moved in and transformed the place into multiple recording suites, but left the original studio as it was. They had a voice-over suite put in and recorded Stephen Fry doing the audio books for Harry Potter books 1-6, they also had such artists as Brian from Placebo, Cliff Richard, Chrissie Hynde and Bruce Hornsby do pieces of work within the complex. Dusty Springfield also did her last ever recording here in Studio 1.
Dean Street Studios was then born in August 2007.
STUDIO 1 - SSL Console 24 Channels, Neve Melbourne Console 20 Channels, Pro tools HD3 digital and analogue recording and mixing.
ROOM 2 - Post/Pre Production room, Writing room available on a daily rate. Available with or without Pro Tools HD1 and DigiDesign Console.
ROOM 3 - Writing Room or booth room linked through to main live room.
Dean Street Studios, located in Soho, London, have become the first commercial studio to auction off their downtime on eBay. The auctions, which the studio aim to run monthly, gives bands the opportunity to place bids on the spare time at the studio, which in turn generates revenue for Dean Street (albeit not at full rate), and offers bands on tight budgets to be in with a chance of recording in a respected London studio. The winners of the first Dean Street auction were The Draytones, who picked up a day of studio time for just £200. Included in the price is the use of the studio equipment (including an SSL AWS900+, Pro Tools HD3 system and Westlake monitors), plus help from in-house engineers.Dean Street has an interesting history: Tony Visconti ran his Good Earth Studios from the site and worked with the likes of David Bowie, U2 and Moody Blues. Dusty Springfield made her last ever recording there and, more recently, Stephen Fry visited the facility to record the voice-over for the Harry Potter audio books. The latest Dean Street downtime auction is now on eBay, and will finish just before midday on Saturday 27th October. To bid, visit eBay and search for item 170161493210.For all the details on the studio, check out www.deanst.com, or call +44 (0)207 734 8009.
