Kieren Lewin (Special.K) has been playing records since he was 12yo (late 1986). Started with a eclectic passion for Hip-Hop, Punk, Thrash, house & disco which grew into a love for everything from Soul, Jazz, Blues & Bluegrass to Rock n’ Roll, Swing & Rockabilly as well as House, Garage & Disco. Kieren (Special.K) currently plays mainly house except for his Saturday night gig at MINK where he play his retrospective revue on classic soul, funk, blues & rock. Currently Kieren’s residencies are; HooHaa Fridays 9pm till 2am – MINK Saturdays 9pm till 3am – Vineyard Sundays (1st of the month) 9pm till 12:30am – MINK Sundays (on rotation).Kieren has always been fascinated with speakers, as a kid he built his own speakers to use for parties & mobile DJing gigs. When he left school at 16 he went to work as a sound engineer in Australia's then flourishing live music scene where his obsession with acoustics and speaker design grew, as the years passed he was noticing that sound systems in his beloved dance club scene were lowering in quality. Kieren’s company originally named "Odeon Hardware" in 1991, "Odeon Productions & KLAD Audio" in 1996 then split into KLAD audio (Kieren Lewin Audio Designs) & 48 Records in 2003 to separate the vinyl sales and sound system design sides of the business. 48 Records is now run out of Adelaide by Sarah & Adam Skubala which gives Kieren more time to concentrate on the running of the KLAD Audio installation and service business running out of Melbourne.
