Huy Nguyen, based out of Houston, Texas, was destined to have a career in the entertainment business. He has delved into the middle of all the action and has started his own independent music business consulting company called Mosaic Music Consulting Services.
Formerly the head of A&R (Artist & Repertoire) at Music World Entertainment, a subsidiary of Universal Music, (otherwise known as the home of Destiny’s Child and Beyonce’) Huy developed his career at Music World and was mentored by Mathew Knowles, the president of the label. Huy is credited on over 25 records including the last 4 Destiny’s Child records, Beyonce’, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Earth Wind & Fire, Ray J, The O’Jays and a hand full of soundtracks and gospel records, most of which have been certified multi-platinum and gold by the RIAA. In addition to those artists, he has worked with everyone from Michael Buble, Celine Dion & Stevie Wonder to TI, Lil Wayne, Eve & Neyo.
Born in a small town north of Amarillo, Texas, Huy moved to Houston with his family during his early childhood. As an adolescent, he set his mind to becoming a doctor, but also had a strong desire for music. His father, an artist in the Vietnamese community, exposed Nguyen to music at an early age and is credited for his musical prowess. Huy started playing the piano at the age of 5 and by the time he was in middle school, he was playing four other instruments. He attended Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions where he joined the school choir and discovered his own voice. Huy received awards for his creative writing, and was even voted best singer by his peers. After graduating at the top percentile of his class, he continued his studies at Texas A&M University as a biomedical science major (but switched to psychology and business). Eventually, he joined an all-male a cappella group called Apotheosis to fulfill his desire to make music. Huy served as the group’s marketing manager and enjoyed singing for audiences with the likes of the Bush family, Texas governor Rick Perry and director Spike Lee. He also honed his craft for producing vocals on the group’s first album, 5 Seconds to Spare.
Currently, Huy is running his own consulting company, Mosaic Music Consulting Services. He has a 100% success rate in getting his clients signed to labels and is currently taking on new talent. “Now that I am independent, I have the opportunity to help the artists I truly believe in, get to the next level†Huy says. With his musical talents, rock-hard work ethics, platinum sensing ears and his unwavering integrity, Huy is destined to climb to the top of the music industry.
UPDATE: Huy just qualified to become the newest voting member of The Recording Acadamy aka THE GRAMMY AWARDS.
