I moved from Milwaukee, WI to Portland, OR to attend Birthingway College of Midwifery. I strongly support natural, unmedicated childbirth and home births-though I recognize that a woman must feel safe and supported in whichever birth space she chooses (even if OB care is statistically less safe than midwives are for low-risk women). I work as a Labor Doula at a local hospital and I volunteer in my free time as a Postpartum Doula. Basically, I provide physical and emotional support for laboring mothers and their families. I also work to create a community around new mothers. I am here to educate, support, and befriend women during a very special time in their lives. And occasionally I am asked to grind up placenta to make daily supplements with. And that shit gets all up under your nails..ahahah. For real though.
I read a lot, mostly nonfiction, but I love a good novel every now and again. Right now I am in the researching stage of writing a book with my father and sister. You're going to want to read it. Aha.
I live my life around the principle that all of the Earth and it's inhabitants are G-d. And there is no greater praise to G-d than respect for the Earth, specifically environmentalism, but also just an appreciation for nature. (Booze-soaked bonfires overlooking the Puget Sound totally count as worship.) I don't exactly consider myself to be a pagan, but I appreciate their integration of the Earth in their spirituality and rituals. I also feel it is important to respect the people around you-even when you differ greatly, for everyone is G-d. (At this point I ask kindly that you listen to Mr Wendal by Arrested Development.)
You are G-d.
There is no hell, stop worrying.
Jane calls me a 'Business Hippy.' She is probably right-I have stopped combing my hair but I still fucking love J. Crew. I'm also told that I am passionate and somewhat erratic.
I truly believe that you have more to lose by not ever trying, than you could ever lose by 'failing.' Real success is self actualization, anyway. Someday I hope to be that self aware. I think I might achieve it if I spend more time on meditation and less time watching syndicated television.
Although it is awfully lonely being 2,066 miles away from home, I feel inspired each day. In my short life I have made some interesting and dynamic friends, with whom I am truly captivated by. I also have a beautiful, wise, and amazing sister (truly, she is the jam). I feel so lucky to be a part of her love and support. And I have two wonderful parents (and a Nonny), without which I would be so lost! I feel very fortunate to live in a part of the country where I am not far from both mountains and the ocean!! I am so blessed.
For pictures, updates, and whatnot add me on Facebook. I hardly check this.
