Menace II Sobriety

About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorRepresenting Brighton UK, Koaste first hit the scene in the late nineties as an emcee with 360 Physicals, alongside amongst others, beatboxer Killa Kela and turntablist crew The Flaredycats. 360 rocked shows at various venues around the country and were heralded as a crew to watch in DJ Magazine, but split up before ever getting a proper release.
In 2000, Koaste released Call To Arms under the name Last Men Standing alongside DJ Enema and producer Genesis, which was the first track on the Raw Materials 2 LP on Stonegroove Records, shouting out his contemporaries in the UK scene at the time, and earning a "legendary" tag from Knowledge Magazine in the process. Only four tracks were recorded under the LMS name, and eventually, due to conlicts of interest, Koaste decided to go it alone.
2002 saw K-Slugs team up with producer Hoodee for the vitriolic Sluglife Anthem, released on Hoodee's First Contact EP on Aerosolik Records, and again earning many plaudits for his passionate delivery. Packin' It Up was the next track produced by Hoodee, and featured on compilations released by Brighton promoters Clever Looking and the Brighton Hip Hop Festival in 2004.
In 2004, Koaste joined Dr Syntax and Elemental as part of The Menagerie soon after the release of their Wild Kingdom LP, and is currently in the studio writing and recording the follow up, as well as putting together tracks for a solo project with the working title of Menace II Sobriety.
Koaste has performed as hypeman for Mark B and Brighton deejay crew The Jazz Thugs amongst others, and as host of Brighton's Beatdown night, has supported the likes of Guru, Jazzy Jeff and Prince Paul. He has worked with artists including 184, Rup the Cnut, Dark Circle, Foreign Beggars, HP and many more.
Look out for more releases from Koaste in the very near future...
