Cameron Outlaw has studied the drum for as long as he can remember; having won four different scholarships, playing on a cruise ship, and making his professional debut at the HR-57 in D.C. at the age of 16. He opened at Chords (high end jazz club in VA.) under Cameron Outlaw quartet at age 18, led his band to play at a local jazz fest in MD., also has performed as a side man to many top names in Washington D.C. area. There are several musicians who have influenced Cameron’s style of play. To name a few would be: The great Tony Williams , Jack Dejohnette, Terreon Gully, Billy Cobham, Brian Blade, Art Blakely, Vinnie Colaiuta, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Dave Holland, John McLaughlin, Wayne Shorter, Chic Corea, Kenny Garrett, Geoffrey Keezer, Robert Glasper, Keith Jarret, Antonio Sanchez, Herbie Hancock and Terri Lyne Carrington only to list a few.As Cameron prepared to do this, he wanted to pay tribute to his father, who participated in the War Zone, as a contractor that worked on helicopters in 1991. Cameron and his brother derived to this concept, by trying to image themselves in the shoes of people in the War Zone. They connected the music to the drone of the helicopter, the machine gun effect of the drum, and tried to keep the intensity alive
