About Me

"Mela-D” BIO
Melanie Elyse DelaCruz a.k.a Mela-D was born in The Boogie Down Bronx on June 19, 1991. It was apparent to all those around Melanie that she had star like qualities at an early age. At the tender age of 5, Melanie was chosen to compete for the title of “Little Miss Puerto Rico” in a pageant representing the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, Inc. It was this experience that gave Melanie her taste and love for performing - she loved to sing and dance. Melanie continued performing and joined the John Casablancas Agency for Modeling and Acting. She was a natural at acting and caught the eye of a movie producer who quickly cast her in a role opposite Jennifer Lopez (a role model for Melanie) in the movie, “Maid in Manhattan”. Melanie was ready to enter Junior High School and her parents wanted her to get into a magnet school in NYC. Melanie was accepted into the Dance Program in a specialized Junior High School in Brooklyn, NYC. With the guidance of her dance teacher, Melanie honed in on her dance skills and became one of the main dancers in the schools Dance Ensemble. Throughout the city, Melanie performed dances and even won a spot to perform live for the United Federation of Teachers on Broadway. Melanie’s many creative talents include painting and drawing. With her artistic skills, Melanie auditioned and was accepted into the Art Program at Edward R. Murrow High School. However, Melanie’s parents wanted her to be closer to home and opted instead for her to go to a school , where she could also become involved in sports. Melanie is currently the team captain for both the girls Lacrosse and Volleyball teams. During the past 2 years Melanies love for creative writing and music pulled her back into the game. Melanie has also been influenced by her Dad, music producer and longtime DJ, ‘Mugsy Mugs’ She had been rockin the mic in the basement for a long time and he felt it was time for her to hit the studio. With the help and guidance of some very talented artists including , The Mad Stuntman- “ Move It Move It”, Screechy Don-“Pose Off”,and Naturally- “Down In Jamaica”, Melanie started recording. With her natural talent to write and perform, Mela-D knew exactly the sound she was striving for. Mela-D’s sound is a mix of musical cultures- Hip Hop, Latin and Reggae. “Dubbing Music” as she likes to call it. Her first single “Body Rock”is headed straight to the top . The song and video are very popular amongst her peers in Rockaway and around the city. It has created an instant buzz on the internet.
