WHAT IS IT?
The So Cal Music Live Competition is a contest to determine the best live performers in the Southern California area. It is comprised of five categories – Best Female, Best Male, Best Acoustic Band, Best Electric Artist/Band and Fan Favorite. All types of music are allowed. The Awards will be presented on April 7, 2009, at the M Bar in Hollywood. The 2008 winners were BEST FEMALE - Adjoa; BEST MALE - Danny Maika; BEST BAND - Stephanie Bettman Band.
WHO ARE THE SPONSORS?
Fender will donate a Reasonator guitar for the winner of the Best Male category and Daisy Rock will donate a beautiful blue guitar to the winner of the Best Female category. The winner of the Best Electric Artist/Band category will receive a beautiful Inferno guitar from Minarik. The winner of the Best Acoustic Band category will win a $100 gift certificate from Sam Ash Music. All winners also receive a one-year membership in Songsalive!, the premier songwriter and composer organization, with branches worldwide. All participants receive a gift certificate from Sam Ash Music.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Competition works through a series of showcases which will be held at locations in Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. Other locations may be added, depending on the demand. Each performer will be judged independently on a scale of 1 to 10 in the following areas: Overall Musicianship; Originality; Song Variety; Stage Presence/Energy; Group Chemistry (if band); Audience Interaction; and Crowd Response. In addition, each performer can earn up to 10 bonus points by bringing their family, friends and fans to the showcase.
The five performers receiving the highest scores (including ties) will become the nominees in their respective categories, and will compete in the Finals held on March 21 at the Gypsy Den in Santa Ana for acoustic acts and on March 20 at the Plum House in Riverside for electric acts. All nominees are invited to the Awards Show at the M Bar in Hollywood. The Top 3 as determined by the Finals will each perform one song during the Awards Show prior to the announcement of the winners.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE SHOWCASES?
The showcases for Orange County will be held at the Gypsy Den, located at 125 Broadway (Artists Village) in Santa Ana, on the second and fourth Tuesdays (except November and December) of each month. The finals will be held at the same location on March 21, 2009.
The showcases for Los Angeles County will be held at The Talking Stick in Venice, the Derby in Los Feliz, Borders Book & Music in Pasadena and additional locations to be determined.
The showcases for the Inland Empire will be held at the Plum House in Riverside. The finals for the electric artists will be held at this location on March 20, 2009.

Simply send me your name, address, cell phone number and email address, plus a check in the amount of $25, made payable to “So.Cal. Music Live,†along with your choice of showcase location and date.
