Nate Kimball was born October 19th, 1984 in the arid asylum of Las Vegas. As a young boy, Nate was constantly surrounded by music. His father, Seth Kimball, worked for such artists as Louis Prima, Frank Sinatra, Sam Butera & The Witnesses, and Pat Martino as a professional bassist. As a bandleader, his father would rehearse several night bands at his home where Nate, unconcerned with music at the time, would sleep in the bass drum. Whether or not this contributed to any of Nate's current behavior is debatable
It wasn't until middle school when Nate began pursuing the trombone he would learn to love (and, at times, hate). However, Nate found that the Meadows School was not exactly a hotspot for young budding musicians. In 1998, Nate attended high school at the Las Vegas Academy for Performing Arts, where he was able to begin studying music seriously. As a euphoniumist, Nate won two command performances in the state's solo and ensemble festivals, was principal chair of the all-state band for three years, and was in the top local honor band four years -- three of which he played in as principal euphoniumist. As a trombonist, Nate received a late start, not pursuing jazz until his junior year of high school. However, he won an award for "Best Young Trombone Soloist" at the 2002 Monterrey Jazz Festival and was selected as lead trombonist for the Monterrey All-Star Jazz Band. In addition, Nate played jazz chair in the local all-star jazz band for two years in addition to playing in the local honor jazz band for one year.
Nate is a recent graduate of the University of Nevada Las Vegas and holds bachelor's degrees in Jazz Studies - Trombone Performance and Jazz Studies - Composition. In his free time, Nate continues playing as a solo euphoniumist in the Las Vegas Brass Band. As a trombonist, Nate was a finalist in the International Trombone Association's "J.J. Johnson" Jazz Trombone competition. As a composer, Nate's piece entitled "Daydream" was one of the winners of the Nevada Jazz Society's Young Composers competition.
Professionally, Nate currently plays full-time in the Las Vegas Classic Jazz Band (formally known as the Royal Dixie Jazz Band) at the Gold Coast Hotel. The band, a mainstay in Las Vegas for over 30 years, plays traditional and swing jazz every monday through friday from 1:00 pm to 6:40pm in the main lounge. In addition, Nate plays in a burlesque-themed rock cover band known as " The Saloon Door Slammers " and an authentic cumbia band called "' Esencia. " As a freelancer, Nate has played nearly every venue Las Vegas has to offer and has worked such shows/groups as Gladys Knight, Manhattan Transfer, Tommy Tune, Marvin Hamlisch, Ben Vereen, The Producers at the Paris and the outstanding Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns . In addition, his freelancing work has allowed him to share the stage with such artists as the late Carl Fontana, Ruth Brown, Jim Pugh, Bill Richenbach, Peter Erskine, The Impressions, Gene Pitney, and Eddie Holman.
