Born in Moca, Dominican Republic. From an early age Wilfredo Martes is brought up knowing the value of hard work as he sees his mom work from dawn to dusk just to provide food and shelter. These values will be the foundation for Chester’s career and will reflect in his music through and through. His life changes completely in 1995 when his family and him come to NYC for the first time.
The name "Chester" was given to him by a close Ecuadorian friend for his Indigenous looks. "Chester" means Indian leader.
The first time he rhymes is at a family party at 14yrs of age, from there on, his friends and him always carried 2 microphones and a cd with beats in a book bag to all parties. So even at this age he understood and delivered entertainment. His music can be described in various styles; maliantiao/tiraera, club, and his especially romantic. His favorite artist and the one that most inspires him is Carlos Manuel "El Safiro", an 80's Merengue hit star.
Chester’s arsenal includes composing, freestlying, Rapping, aggressive flow and a singers voice if need be. This cannot be said about too many which sets Chester apart from the already flooded reggaeton market. Chester’s camp is self-contained with versatile producers like Game G, T2, I.A.M.-Music and D-nice who adds their finishing blows to their adversaries…. if any.
The “Golden Boy†isn’t named this just for his flashy looks. Chester’s performance is second to none. His stage presence is energetic and explosive in every aspect. Promoters and Clubs have benefited from his following and allure that comes with the territory. Chester’s audience is ever growing and they can’t get enough of his product, yet he yearns to deliver the unfiltered, pure sound that they deserve.
