"Joel and Sarah are a spicy mix of fire and water with enough steam to drive a locomotive" - Joe Ely
Fox's debut album "Short Stories" (Hightone Records) produced by Los Lobos, Steve Berlin, had been a decidedly Jazz Folklorico effort, in contrast Latinology features a guitar driven band and shows the work of producer Joel Guzman blending all things Latin; cumbia, rumba with blues, soul, gospel, funk and rock with amazing fluidity. This collection of 12 originals features the songs of fiery bi-lingual vocalist and composer Sarah Fox, known for her expressive voice and the unique accordion artistry of Guzman.
"Aztex is a solid crew whose debut is an excellent voodoo fusion of tropical rhythms, roots music and bluesy tunes covering pretty much the same territory and more as Los Super Seven's folk roots outing last year. Like Los Super Seven's work, this 11-track collection of fresh and engaging bilingual tunes simply doesn't fit any preconceived radio formats."- Ramiro Burr, Music Reporter, San Antonio, Texas
Latinology features special guests John Dee Graham, slide guitar master Stephen Bruton and Latin Jazz guitarist Mark Towns. Behind the hard driving pulse of Latinology are drummers' Cougar Estrada, George Sluppick, Mike Longoria. with Rey Arteaga and Phil Bass sharing percussion duties. Formerly known as Aztex, Joel Guzman & Sarah Fox have toured Spain, France and Italy.
"Singer-Composer Sarah Fox and accordionist Joel Guzman deliver one of the year's intriguing albums, Latinology, by reaching deep into the ocean of Latin and other influences. The cumbia-rumba-tejano-conjunto-soul-funk-gospel-rock sound is as seamless as water."-Bob Geddie, Buddy Magazine
In the U.S they have been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C, The Lincoln Center (NYC) The Arena (Seattle, WA) and the annual Festival International (Lafayette,LA).
