I’m a urban young artist who is proof again that "if you can conceive it, you can achieve it". Born David Johnson, but a.k.a. Shay D.I. (tha Kid) (Tha Buck Fifty Boy), I’m a visionary who struggled to git out of a negative scene wit my music. Growing up in K-Town, a depressed area of tha west side of Chicago, I used my music as a hobby to help me stay away from all bad forces around me. Through GOD, perseverance and a loving family, eventually I was able to get away from drug dealing and gang affiliation. I realized at an early age that I was a natural writer. I performed in my first talent show at Crane high school in Chicago. After my first win, I started doing talent shows in other schools. As my hunger for attention increased, I decided to take what I had learned from my experiences to tha next level. So after graduating from high school I started performing at open mics around tha city. Some places where I performed at in tha beginning was tha Cotton Club, Stevie B’s and Vanity. Tha feedback that I git from my audiences is always very positive. I git compliments wit remarks like, “you got a very marketable look”, “you got a flawless swagger in yo flows” and “you got a superb stage presence in yo performance”. After receiving lots of love from the ladies and other fans, I started to gain street credibility. That’s when I decided to step up to tha plate with hopes of being tha ONE that’s next in tha business. I stepped up my game. Now, I’m all grown up and Doing My Thang. I performed in “The Showdown 2005 Talent Competition” hosted by WGCI 107.5 fm radio on air personalities DJ Lil’Jon, Bionce Foxx, and Chicago’s own Ladee Flipside. I didn’t win but my performance, with tha assistance of my dynamic hype man, L.O.G., caught tha attention of tha producers and I was asked to perform at tha finals. The audience showed me a lot of love. After this performance, I felt that I was ready to move higher. My rep had started to spread and I started to git offers to perform at other major events. Since October 2005, I been an opening act for major acts like DTP recording artist Shawna, SoSo Def recording artist Sunny a.k.a. Sun N.Y., Rap-a-Lot recording artist Do or Die and Full Surface recording artist MaShonda. I also did some collabs wit Chicago’s 3Piece. I’m ready for tha world yawl. My spirit is filled wit soul and I got real life messages of hip-hop and passion. I’m a very confident rap artist and writer who knows who I am and I Am What I Am. Shay D.I. tha Kid is definitely on tha move. Doing my Thang and doing it well. Is the industry ready for a dude that stay fresh to death and got style and swagger and can spit a hot rhyme on any beat? Is yawl ready for a very creative young fresh to death rapper wit a off the hook performance?
