Mick Swagger (born J. Jones, June 6 1989 in Greenville, later moving to Atlanta) is the founder of the group The Cool Retro Gang. Being a Greenville South Carolina native, he played alot of music. He really liked the New York stylye of rap as well as the Dirty South style of rap and also Chicago's way of fast rapping, he mixed all of the styles 2gether and he picked up and developed a unique style of his own. His style is very unique. He has a flow that's something to bump in the club and in the hood for those who like that but mostly likes the Hip-Hop, Soul, and Pop styles of music. He attemps to use lyrics that make people think and loves using outrageaous punchlines. It also has a lil mix of Crunk(ATL), Hyphy(BAY AREA) and mostly the feel of Chicago and New Yorks feel, and tends add some Rockstar to his sound. He started rappin' at the age 4 or 5, listening to songs and would make his own versions of them. But he began to get serious about Hip-Hop after hearing Jay-Z's debut. "Ever since Jay came out, he's all I would listen to" and he's been puttin it down ever since. He later hooked up wit his right hand man for life and fellow group member, Lil Mike (now Mike McFligh) in 2003, and they have been attempting to put South Carolina on the map ever since.
Mike McFligh fka "Lil Mike" has his style of a real pretty but hyphy type of person and is mostly compared 2 alot of famous artist because of his unique look and voice. Lil Mike is from Clinton South Carolina along wit artist Kyle Valentine and President (P.B.C.) who I also do songs with... but Mike moved to Greenville when he n Mick Swagger began rapping together with their unique styles. They have strong minds and they definitely show on their tracks, and when it comes to making beats They both get on their grind and lay it down. They also aren't afraid to try new styles of rapping and running with the most successful n phazed sound. M.S. and Mike are both experimentalists in the booth.
"I started off in my room rappin in the mic of a boombox n recordin it on cassett tapes." I went by many names since I was young such as Phenom, Young ATL, Young Gutta, Gutta G-Breezy, J (dot) Redd, Weapon X to name a few. The names that actually stuck with Mick Swagger was- M.S., SWAG, K!D R3TRO, KID COOL, MICKEY SWAGSz, J.O.N.E.S and SKATEBOARD B. My group has also undergone some name changes from The Duece Squad to Dem Gutta Boyz to Gutta Mafia Skull Gang ( Skull Gang comes from us wearin skulls on our clothes and accessories n wearin a skulled bandana. The Skulls are also our trademark logo) to the final name, THE COOL - RETRO GANG. Mick Swagger has recently connected them with studio equipment where they began to make studio quality songs, and they still like 2 record in their own homes to give their music that rough street music sound, but now record in a top of the line studio.
People started to love their crazy styles in rappin' as they began rappin in public places and showin off their talent wherever their was a mic. But they had fans they had more haters.
Mick Swagger is the owner of C.O.O.L MUSIC, his self proclaimed record label, and has started the N.A.S.A. (also seen as NASA) New Age Swag Association. It also stands for National Audience Skate Association when affiliated with his passion for skateboarding
He also raps wit D. James tha MobStar, and some of his other boys from high school. They made a couple tracks that people liked, but they would only feature each other on songs and not start a group together.
When famous Mick Swagger tends to take C.O.O.L MUSIC from an unsigned label to an indie label all the way to a major record company. In this he will also sign Mike McFligh to C.O.O.L MUSIC. Upon becoming a solo artist Mick Swagger decided to start a new trend in the industry taking the ROCKSTAR look and sound to a new level. He dresses in the ROCKSTAR fashion similar to the look of Lupe Fiasco and mixes it with the look of Jay-Z and Kanye West, but takes it to a whole new level. Not only does he pertain to the ROCKSTAR era, but he merges it with the SKATEBOARD era because besides the love of music he has a passion for skateboarding, and he blends the look of the ROCKSTAR and the SKATEBOARDER to create his signature look. And as of the new sound for his music he blends the sound and culture of HIP-HOP with the sound of SOUL, POP, ALTERNATIVE, and EXPERIMENTAL music to create his own style. He is now a more solo artist and under the management of Akeylas Robinson (AK), and is connected to P@RDON MY FR&NCH ENT(the managers label). So now Mick Swagger a.k.a Micky Swagsz starts the new year of 2008 off with his new solo career on the label C.O.O.L MUSIC/NASA. and is working on his first solo album and is was part of the super group PRETTY BOY CLICK a.k.a. PBC after they removed one artist from the group and they're workin on their album also. {P.B.C is no longer together. They have went their separate ways but M.S. still stays in touch wit both members}
Mick Swagger lives in Greenville S.C., while his long time homie Mike and their Manager AK live in Atlanta and will continue to make music until they sign that major deal... then its a whole new ball game movin into the pros.
