LHS was formed in 1991 by Joakim MÃ¥rdstam, Liljan Liljekvist (former Charly and The Slaves, now Circus of Artica) and Jörgen Fahlberg (The Kristet Utseende). Jörgen soon left the band to form TKU and after a while also Liljan. They were replaced by Kicki Höijertz, Peter Selin and Erik Barthold and soon after this reformation the band entered into the studio and recorded two songs for a compilation-CD “Metal Northâ€, which was released in early ’93. In 1994 they signed a contract with Massproduktion and recorded the gothic, doom metal masterpiece “Shadowdance†which was released later that year.
Their second album “Fevered†was a continuation of Shadowdance’s sweet nightmare, but with even more mature song-writing and, at then just 16 years old, new vocalist Mariana Holmberg. In January 1997 “Fevered†was licensed to Nuclear Blast for release in the rest of Europe and North America. The album was received enthusiastically by the press and metal stations all over Europe and the U.S. With no promotion whatsoever Left Hand Solution still charted on CMJ and remained on the CMJ metal chart through October. The next few years were spent touring Europe and working on new material.
“Light Shines Black†was released on the 2 of April 2001 in Europe and got fantastic reviews. The album showed a strong development, which includes the goth and doom elements of the early LHS with fantastic rough riffs, added by their new guitar player Janne Wiklund. March 2002 Left Hand Solution did their first American tour with gigs at CBGB’s in New York and SXSW in Austin and also a live performance at the Musique Plus TV show in Montreal, Canada. Summer also included a great gig at Summer Breeze, South Germanys largest metal festival. 2003 the band celebrated 10 years on record and to honour that Massproduktion re-released "Shadowdance" as a remastered full-length album with some great previously unreleased tracks.
During 2002 bass player Peter Selin left the band and for a long period they had no permanent bass player. Early 2004 Robert Bergius joined the band as their new bass player. The life of LHS is highly dependant on the life of another cult band - The Kristet Utseende - as two of the members of LHS nowadays also plays in TKU. The neverending success of TKU has postponed the recordings of a new album. The songs are written but there’s probably not
time to record it until summer 2008. ..
