UNT's FMLA presents the 8th annual production of the Vagina Monologues!
The Vagina Monologues is part of an amazing global movement called V Day. www.vday.org It addresses violence against women and children. This all started when Eve Ensler, the playwright, sat with women of all backgrounds, races, orientation, and educational levels to take an interspective look into their lives, their herstory, their vagina. At first they were shy only because they had never been asked before but it didn't take long until they really opened up. The Monologues are based off of real women's stories and can identify with everyone in some way. The production has been performed on Broadway, college and community champaigns. All production and promotional event proceeds are given to local charities with related causes.
Whether you know it or not, you currently know someone who was a victim or will be. The prominence of violence is greatly present but often overlooked;in our society the topic is muffled and secretive. The setting is the household, college campus, the community, abroad cultures/religions, it's everywhere! Many victims feel ashamed, embarrassed, and have been estranged by their own family after they have been violated. The issues must be revealed, the silence broken for healing to begin. The performance enlightens and entertains with its extensions of hilarious laughter to heart-wrenching tales of horror. Women throughout the years have gained a new found piece or lost sense of self after their involvement with the monologues.
