Artist/Producer, Az Izz knows the Hip Hop “game†better than most. He’s worked with some of the industry’s top veterans and watched a few friends scale the mountain toward success.
Now, it’s his time.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Az Izz came to the U.S. in 1988. In no time, he embarked on a career as a Hip Hop artist. It all began in Newark, NJ (“Brick Cityâ€) in 1994, when a friend introduced him to Slang Ton and Loon-One, both members of the critically acclaimed group, the Outsidaz.
Impressed with Az’s lyrical flow and originality, the group immediately asked him to join the Outsidaz. Quickly becoming an integral part of the clique, Az Izz co-wrote five and produced three tracks on their seven-track debut EP, “Night Lifeâ€. One of those songs, “Rush Ya Cliqueâ€, featured an up-and-coming rapper from Detroit who would soon take the hip-hop industry by storm. That artist was none other than Eminem, who even gave shoutouts to Az Izz and the Outsidaz on his debut album produced by Dr. Dre.
“F**k Y’all Niggaz†was another track produced by Az Izz on the “Night Life†EP. This track featured Rah Digga, who would eventually go on to become the first and only female member of Busta Rhymes’ Flipmode Squad. She was so pleased with the outcome of the track that she asked the Outsidaz to make a guest appearance on her “Dirty Harriet†album. Az Izz fired it up as usual, with a standout performance on the cut, “The Last Wordâ€.
The success of the “Night Life†EP paved a new way for the Outsidaz. They were soon booked as the opening act of the Lyricist Lounge Tour, featuring Slick Rick and Ghostface Killah. By the end of the tour, the Outsidaz were the headlining act. Following that, they departed for Europe to begin a multi-city British tour. Upon their return home, they were asked to open up for hip-hop heavyweight and fellow “Brick City†native, Redman, alongside Method Man, on their coast-to-coast U.S. tour. The Outsidaz’ blistering stage performances amazed the crowds. Both tours were a monumental success.
The Outsidaz quickly followed this success with a full-length LP release appropriately titled, “The Bricks†(featuring contributions from both Method Man and Redman). The lyrics and hard-hitting beats were even sharper this time around. The record received favorable reviews in the Source, XXL, Vibe, Hip-Hop Connection, NME, and DJ Magazine. In addition to tour stops and featured appearances, the Outsidaz found themselves performing on BET’s “Rap City†and “Live from L.A.†television shows.
It was only a matter of time before Az Izz would go the solo route. Things really took off when his song, “Public Enemy 1â€, was featured in the movie, “Snipes†(starring Nelly and Dean Winters). Az Izz then made a trip to Detroit to reconnect with some old friends. He hit up the studio with D12’s very own, Proof (R.I.P.), recording eleven songs in two days.
Recently, Az Izz appeared on the Ruff Nation Films’ movie, “Death Before Dishonorâ€. His track, “I’m From The Ghettoâ€, was also featured on the film. He currently completed his first solo album entitled, “The Auctionâ€. This album is sure to turn heads with Az's mind-blowing lyrics, spit-fire delivery, and groundbreaking beats. Musically and lyrically, Az Izz is at the top of his game now. He has a strong desire to take the Hip Hop game to another level, a passion clearly apparent in his music.
