About Me

Hello, an American girl in England here, bumbling about a fantastic life with my expat dog and cat and new native husband, trying to find my way through all it has to offer. Mr. Thoreau probably sums it up best; "I went into the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life...to put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Not to say that I am immune to a good few and friendly neurosis and stumbling blocks while I am at it! These days, my drive has swung to switch my degree to psychology and incorporate what I have learned from the Louise Hay principles of thought to be able to uplift young women and the elderly- two of what I think are the most neglected, vulnerable places in life where one's inherent value and abilities are often forgotten. I'm just trying to sort out what the best way is to do that, but I'm on the way. Currently I'm working in the Finance industry after a little over a decade as a legal assistant in Washington, DC (legislative and later corprate). I'd love to come across a few peops that also share passion, curiousity and reflection, and who like to talk about what they think about (and think about what they talk about...) yet who aren't afraid to get stupid in a field with my dog and me or out at the clubs/pubs! Cheers Laura, for the peer pressure!
You Belong in London
A little old fashioned, and a little modern.
A little traditional, and a little bit punk rock.
A unique woman like you needs a city that offers everything.
No wonder you and London will get along so well. What City Do You Belong In?

My Interests

The humanities- people, places, politics, music, medicine, art....animals, beauty in all forms, loads of other stuff!
You Are Champagne
A true mystery, no one can quite figure you out...
That is, until you start drinking. Then you tend to let loose.
You're fun to drink with, but it definitely takes you a few drinks to loosen up.
You prefer to date a man who likes the finer things in life... like a five star dinner with that champagne. What Alcoholic Drink Are You?

I'd like to meet:

Louise Hay, Soren Kierkegaard, Ralph Waldo Emerson, G.W.F Hegel, Virginia Woolf, George Micheal, Tony Blair, Voltaire, Oprah, Michael Jackson, Hilary Clinton, Kahlil Gibran, Thomas Paine, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Bill Cosby, Fredrich Nietzche, Aristotle, Robbie Williams, St. Thomas Aquinas, oh yeah.
Send my pics and video to your cell phone!

Music:

Bjork, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, George Michael, White Stripes, Jem, Buena Vista Social Club, Gypsy Kings, Cole Porter, Gwen Stefanie, Hole, BEP, Fiona Apple, Kasabian, lots but not techno (a sin in the UK!)

Movies:

Mmmm- not my favourite question. So many films, so much movie amnesia; if I don't think it was stellar I'll often forget I even saw it! Like to laugh and think and see different viewpoints- appreciate having different vantage points presented. Any movie that fits any of that, or strikes me as well acted is great with me.

Television:

Anything that lets me peek into someone else's version of life, a la Oprah, The Jonathan Ross show, Top Gear- despite that Jeremy Clarkson's an ass, Desperate Housewives, Medium, House, news documentaries- anything documentary, Larry King, news junkie, Friends (cures homesickness), East Enders, Saturday Kitchen (ooohhh, three men cooking in a steamy kitchen..!), Nigella Bites, any talking head politico on a Sunday morning (gets the blood going)...

Books:

On Beauty, Ahab's Wife, Howard's End, The Rights of Man, Rebecca, anything Bronte, You Can Heal Your Life, anything- anything! All books, all magazines, all things written; excepting the Tom Clancy-James Patterson genre- can't get into it.

Heroes:

Everyone who can look past it and find the love and beauty.

My Blog

Miscarriage of Justice

I just spent an hour typing furiously at my first blog attempt and lost it all, and am gutted :(
