Built in 1871, The Scoot is the oldest
continuously running beer joint in central Texas. In
the olden days weary pioneers would roll their wagons into the Scoot "drive in" for a jug of beer, rations and perhaps some ice when available. Many nights, pioneers, Luddites, Flat-Heads, drunks, dullards, rough-necks, ranch hands, outlaws, bandits and ladies of easy leisure as well as men in stove-pipe hats, sombreros and derbies filled the barroom with tales of their travels throughout the wilds of the Lone Star State. Later, she catered to locals, folks in the neighborhood and the random lookey-loo and passerby. Her charm won them over like the current owners, Mr. Kevin Crutchfield "Kumbala" and J.D. Stockbauer's prize-winning Hog, " Television Talk-Show Icon Miss Oprah Winfrey".The Scoot Inn boasts some of Austin's finest barkeeps and management staff, including the lovely and fabulous Miss Tiffany from Southern Alabama, Mr. Vic "The Rockman Robot", a native Austinite and master mechanic, as well as the inimitable BassMaster Sir Cooper Of Queens(NY, that is).Don't forget Jaron, doorman to the stars and Rufus, your friendly neighborhood booking agent/stage manager/production manager/and sometimes doorman too.
The Scoot also rotates staff from her sister bar, "The Longbranch Inn", featuring a cavalcade of experienced talent and Golden-Gloves. Look forward to bartending styles that range from those who pour the classic "Malibu Stacey" to the "Whiskey and a Lone Star, neat" using stealth and precision and a friendliness not found often anymore.
