I've been a homemaker, (married 25 years to a fun guy) "raising" 2 crawzy pussycats since 1998. Our son and daughter live in the suburbs of Atlanta and we have 4 super-gorgeous G-babes (see pix below).
I have always enjoyed office work. Sorting, filing, typing, color coding, organizing, etc. Before '98 I worked 5 years for our church, 9 years for the largest Pro-Life group in Texas, 5 years as bookkeeper for a steak/seafood restaurant in Dallas and various office jobs around Dallas. I was a telephone operator in Denton, TX just after high school....loved that job! Also, worked part-time hostess and waitress jobs for extra money. I always like the variety of having two jobs at once. Enjoy helping people and working WITH people. Liked the challenge of learning new things.
I am a Reagan Conservative, (so is Luke). I'm fascinated and interested in politics and political issues. I listen to talk radio to keep in touch. So glad that there are some brave souls out there that are saying what I think! We Conservatives finally have a voice. My favorite "talkies": Rush, Mark Levin, Hugh Hewitt, Bill Bennett, Laura Ingraham, David Gold, Dave Ramsey (financial talk guy) and Glenn Beck. Oh, yes and I MUST listen to Matt Drudge on Sunday night. While the radio is on, I keep house, do secretarial stuff for Luke and bookkeeping for some missionary friends in France and Germany (see Cafe Sophia link). I really like working on the P.C. It's still fascinating to me just how all this stuff works!! WOW!
~ My Crossroads Experience ~
In 1981, I worked as the bookkeeper in a large steak and seafood restaurant in Dallas named Bobby McGee's, based out of Arizona. On September 4th, one of the janitors came in and forced me to open the safes. Not only did he rob the restaurant; but he beat and molested me. Then shot me twice in the head. I prayed to God for help. I remember struggling to get to my feet and running until I could find a phone. I was in the habit of memorizing phone numbers. We didn't have speed dial back then. I called the bookkeeper in the Arlington store and told her briefly what had happened. Just as I finished, I saw a dark shadow in the doorway. He was on his way out of the back door, saw me, and decided to finish me off. He fired two more shots into my head. I went down praying again for help. Just minutes later, I was able to give the police a description of the man; and they picked him up at his school within a matter of hours. He was just 16 but very large for his age. Upon interrogation they found that after shooting me he had gone across the street to Jack in the Box and had breakfast. He hopped the bus on the corner and went to school where he proceeded to flash the money around his friends. They went to the authorities at the school and reported his behavior.
I only had a 50/50 chance of surviving and, if I did, I would not speak again, need a leg brace, and never use my right arm or hand. The bullets had destroyed 20 per cent of the cells in the part of my brain that affects the use of my right hand and arm; and they decided, because of the risk of further damage to my brain, to leave one bullet that is lodged in the area of my speak-center. P.S. I did survive, talk with no problem and never needed a leg brace, and was out of the hospital in only 10 weeks!!! The only residue is I cannot use my right hand and have limited use of my right arm.
The most important thing: FORGIVENESS!
At first, I had no interest in my therapy. I was very angry and bitter; but God's Spirit led me to forgive the man and God's power enabled me to do the right thing. My forgiving this guy was a HUGE turning point in my recovery. Finally, I could get on with my rehab. I had to learn to do everything again. Talk, sit-up, walk, and even how to raise my head and swallow. I was right handed and now I'm a "lefty". I always loved to type and I'm pleased to say that I can now type 45 wpm!
Another important thing: Never give up hope...God is always there.
UPDATE: Since taking 1000 mgs of Vitamin E over the past 8 months, I have had very few coughing episodes! I think it has healed my lungs! I have great energy and am now walking 2 miles a day with NO COUGHING! Thank you God! Still have the sinus problems but I am getting out more now. I feel like a human again. WOW! I read a lot, watch movies, futz around on the PC, keep up the household and missionary accounts,and keep the house running smoothly.
Our new interest? Visiting the vineyards of Texas. Don't laugh but there is a great little vineyard in Paris, TX with wonderful wines. They have a wine bar located in downtown Paris. What a find...right here in Texas..

When Earth's Last Picture Is Painted
by Rudyard Kipling ~ 1892
L'Envoi To "The Seven Seas"
When Earth's last picture is painted and the tubes are twisted and dried,
When the oldest colours have faded, and the youngest critic has died,
We shall rest, and, faith, we shall need it --
lie down for an aeon or two,
Till the Master of All Good Workmen shall put us to work anew.
And those that were good shall be happy; they shall sit in a golden chair;
They shall splash at a ten-league canvas with brushes of comets' hair.
They shall find real saints to draw from -- Magdalene, Peter, and Paul;
They shall work for an age at a sitting and never be tired at all!
And only The Master shall praise us, and only The Master shall blame;
And no one shall work for money, and no one shall work for fame,
But each for the joy of the working, and each, in his separate star,
Shall draw the Thing as he sees It for the God of Things as They are!
