My name is John Nau. My grandfather, Ladner Nau, established Nau Pharmacy in Austin, Texas. I'm a born Texan and very proud of it.
I started skateboarding around 1973 and riding for Arrowsmith Skateboards in 1976 or 1977; I don't remember exactly. In the mid to late eighties I rode for Lone Star Skatepark and NHS Santa Cruz Speed Wheels. Arrowsmith Skateboards was one of the early skateboard manufactures in Texas. They made hardwood boards of various shapes and sizes. This was before plywood boards came out. In 1976 Arrowsmith had several full page ads in Skateboarder Magazine, one of which was drawn by Kerry Fitzgerald (aka Kerry Awn) who was one of the poster artists at the Armadillo World Headquarters. There was, also, an offshoot company called Saturn Skateboards that made plywood boards with hardwood kicktails and plywood slalom boards. Later, Arrowsmith did make plywood boards that were called "The Bullet." There were three Arrowsmith skate shops; two in Austin and one in San Antonio. Eventually, one of my best friends, Tom Barrow (RIP), bought out Arrowsmith Skateboards in the early eighties. He then opened his own skate shop and the name was changed to Forward Motion. Forward Motion Skates lasted for a few years and then shutdown. Round Rock - 9/4/2008 http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids....
