Ricochet: You and Ray

About Me

The name of the band (if it is one) was 'Julie & Ray: Ricochet' but it didn't fit right as a myspace profile. And then we broke up, and moved on, anyway. No matter, we might still do some music one way or another. I think we should. I mean, look at Christine and John McVie, who still make beautiful music together, and Quasi, who ROCK their divorce (LOL). Music is transcendent, I really believe that. I'm also interested in collaborating with YOU, whomever you are. This is an open-ended music project, and always was intended to be. THE PATHS REMAIN TO BE FULLY EXPLORED.That is, the Ricochet concept I started with Julie now can encompass collaborating with all kinds of musicians, EVERYWHERE.We started writing and performing music, fusing old world instruments with computers and electronics. Julie and I are both musicians, so we figured what the hell. : ) We wrote one piece together (R&J 1) and then I launched off and composed some other experiments on my own (The Trident, Thumper, Ode to Monk, et al). I can write lots more on my own, but want to keep the doors open for more eclectic musical collaborations. Julie and I have deep musical backgrounds, although quite different. YOU probably do too. That should serve to keep it fresh..., and interesting. My ex and I both admire the great musical collaborators of our time (and hope you do too): Fripp & Eno, Kate Bush & David Gilmore; William Orbit & Madonna, Lou Reed & Nico, Buckingham-Nicks, the Canadian couple in Arcade Fire, the two creative French blokes in Air and the pure guava duo that is Ween, et al. SHE & HIM. Let's not forget She & Him (M.Ward and Zooey, pure musical bliss). And yes, the Ricochet name is a nod to the original Tangerine Dream, who had a great album by that name, and who's early music is a real inspiration to me.Onward!

Sounds Like:What the hell do we sound like? We'll see. Maybe if Syd Barrett wrote techno songs for Cat Power, and it was produced by Brian Eno? Or if Rainforest Ray decided to write that music that was always inside him. Further pondering considers if Stockhausen arranged Debussy's La Mer for the Joffrey Ballet, and then started dancing? What happens when Kraftwerk and Stereolab collide? What if Kronos Quartet was two duos in parallel universes? Does Aphex Twin have a doppleganger? What if Nico fast forwarded from VU to join Air? What if the band that set out to make guitars obsolete (Human League) added an axeslinger? What if Gary Wright joined Ringo's band? Oh wait, he did. ;-) Well, what if Willow grew up and married Giles? Or if the cute tomboy mechanic on the Serenity finally got it on with the Doc? Or if Fripp did too much acid and let the Captain and Tenille join King Crimson? What happens if Floating Pointe couldn't hack the calculation and sank? Well, that gives you some idea of the Ricochet concept... Enjoy our peachy free love theme songs a la mode.

My life in the bush of ghosts & KEYBOARDS (a discussion)

People ask me what instruments I'm using these days...  Especially keyboardist geeks like myself who are high-tech and vintage afficionados and who love to talk gear.  The answer is: EV...
