Joaquin Hernandez is a California State University, San Bernardino alumnus. He received a B.A. in Music Education alongside a B.A. in Music Performance & Composition. He studied percussion under the direction of Gary Long, timpanist of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra.
As a performer Joaquin is a member of the Inland Percussion Group and has performed throughout Southern California with the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, Capistrano Valley Symphony, Knott’s Berry Farm Summer Carnival, Lyric Opera of Los Angeles, the Paris based group Las Ondas Marteles, the Double G Ensemble (Premiering symphonic works at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California). He has also performed in various ensembles from Universities in the Inland Empire and local community theatres.
He currently serves as principal percussionist for the Golden State Pops Orchestra in San Pedro, California and as a section percussionist with the Corona Symphony Orchestra. As a percussion educator Joaquin is currently the percussion instructor at Yucaipa High School.
