About Me

Click to zoom in on my visitor map!
My name is Sam Dutney I'm 18 years old and moved to Brisbane from Rockhampton at the start of the year. Rocky was a hole but at least it didn't have gay ass water restrictions like Brisbane :p). I moved to Rocky from Brisbane in 2001, when my dad got transferred. I started at the Rockhampton Grammar school where I was encouraged to play sport, and I began playing Cricket, Soccer and later on Futsal, Rowing and Rugby League as well as athletics and swimming, making the First XI's for Cricket and Soccer, the First V Futsal and the open rowing squad. I started playing guitar in when i was 16 after I got a guitar as a birthday present. Having been to see the Byron Bay Blues and Roots music festival earlier that year I was inspired by the amazing talents of artists like Buddy Guy, Pete Murray, David Gray, Bernard Fanning, Donavon Frankenreiter, Xavier Rudd and others, and was itching to get my fingers on a guitar. I've now been three years in a row and have experienced a huge range of musical styles. I know how to play numerous covers but I just love trying to write my own stuff. My first song was "Another Few Seconds" and I've put together a seven song EP, bearing the same name, available free to anyone who asks nicely and I can actually get it to. I played trumpet until I was fourteen but that was compulsary rather than voluntary and I didnt enjoy it. Until I 'discovered' guitar I had very little interest in music but now I'm keen to expand my horizons in that field and learn and experience as much as possible. The songs are all entirely composed (lyrics and music) by me and tell stories about experiences of mine or close friends. Away from the guitar I love sports, my main ones being rowing, cricket and soccer. I competed at the Australian National Rowing titles in 2007 and I finished 4th in my final for the single scull which I was really happy about. Last year playing for the RGS First XI in the Australia Post Cup (Queensland Schoolboys cricket competition) I finished as the top wicket taker in Queensland with 19 wickets. I'm now playing Winter Warehouse cricket while I wait for the grade season to start in summer Having completed High school with an OP of 4 I'm studying Law at QUT with a view to ultimately being a barrister. Though thats still years away... In the mean time, I work at A-Salt-&-Battery, the greatest fish n chip shop on earth and coach rowing at Lourdes Hill College. Have a listen to my music and feel free to comment, I hope you enjoy my music half as much as I did playing it.
