At the age of sixteen, Crissi Cochrane began performing as a solo singer/songwriter in the Halifax music scene under the pseudonym, Save September. Influenced by her father (a campfire guitarist), she first picked up the guitar at age ten. Nine years and countless shows later, Crissi has released a five-song CD available to the public titled the Bathroom EP (as it was recorded over the course of ten hours in a bathroom on a laptop). This has sold over three hundred copies both over the internet (internationally) and at shows since its debut in December 2006, and every element of it is handmade - from the posterboard cases to the individually-collaged covers and the stencilled CD designs.
Recently, Crissi has shared the stage with well-known musicians such as Ill Scarlett, Faber Drive, The Reason, and Ten Second Epic. In October of 2007, she took part in the Halifax Pop Explosion, playing a showcase at the Halifax Pavilion with other locals, and a performance at the Khyber with The Most Serene Republic (Arts and Crafts) and The Zoobombs (from Tokyo, Japan). In May of 2008, she embarked on her first tour, taking her show to Toronto and back, and plans are on the horizon for a second tour.
It seems that what originally began as a side project has now become Plan A as Crissi takes her music to a new level, sharing the stage with musicians on a weekly basis and evolving as a writer. Although only 19, great things can be expected to come from this talented and refreshing local musician.
