What exactly IS a puppy mill?
Well, there is no EXACT definition of a puppy mill but google defines them as "a term used to describe what may be considered the irresponsible and inhumane practices of some dog breeders when breeding on a large scale. Small-scale puppy farming is usually called backyard breeding. " You can also go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppy_mills for a more elaborate definition. So now that you've read some general definitions of puppy mills, you're probably wondering "what exactly is so inhumane and irresponsible?" I'll tell you. Here is MY definition of a puppy mill: A puppy mill is a large facility where dogs are forced to live in tiny, cramped cages. The females are bred every heat cycle until they can't produce any more puppies. Then they are killed. Sometimes they are bred so many times that their internal organs grow together. The puppies are then sold to brokers, usually before they're even old enough to be away from they're mothers, and the brokers sell them to pet stores.
Where are puppy mills?
Puppymills are located in pretty much every state but there are 7 states that have the most puppymills. They are Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.
