STORM KING

About Me

Taking influence from a variety of stoner rock, grindcore, death metal, progressive and punk, Storm King was formed in Pittsburgh, PA in April of 2006 over a fine, fine case of a beer by the same name.
For the first year and a half, Storm King was a 3 piece of Scott Massie ( Bottomfeeder , the Bully Cats ), Adam Weston ( Afterlife, Monolith ) and Tom D’Andrea ( Unfortunate Friend , Pittsburgh Fire Fighters Memorial Pipe Band ), with the addition of Andy Kichi ( Enemy Mind ) and Mark Bogacki ( Mark Bogacki ) just months before the band's first show and recording in April of 2008. In the beginning, SK was slower and sometimes kind of doomy, as the original idea was to go a route similar to bands like Down, the Sword, and Seasons in the Abyss era Slayer, but when the new guys showed up, all that changed. Bogacki brought with him an eclectic vibe that roots itself in hardcore and post-punk, while Kichi added a much more technical side to the music with his incorporation of black and death metal stylings.
Storm King doesn't really have a "message" per se. When asked about the lyrical content, Maasie replies, "I used to sing in bands about hating the world, but now most of my lyrics are about hating myself. Sometimes you'll get a story, but for the most part, it tends to get pretty abstractly introspective... Fuck a message anyway. None of it matters."
Being that most of the band are thirty-somethings, with wives and kids and houses and jobs, heavy touring isn’t their style. They prefer to play cities closer to home, but to write and record more often, yielding an EP, a split and 2 singles in the first year alone, hand manufactured and released on the Innervenus record label, owned and operated by members of the band ( www.innervenus.org ). But of course, all that could change. Maybe you have an offer (hint, hint). Get a hold of us.
We’ll see you out there.
