Wu-Tangs Kitchen still open
Review by Wayne MT

In 1995 Raekwon the chef released Only built for Cuban Linx an album which is considered by many to be the best album of the decade. The purple tape was a must have for back packers and street hustlers alike. Laced with vivid street tales and a slang editorial that would make E – 40 blush. On Thursday October 26, hundreds of fans packed the Kinetic Playground located on Chicago’s north side to see if Rae still has the recipe to cook up a marvelous dish.

With Scion footing the bill, concertgoers were treated to a mind dazzling light show and eclectic grooves provided by DJ Heir. The crowd demographics would have made Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition proud. Opening act duties were performed by EL Michels Affair. EL Michels Affair an extremely funky group of musicians out of Brooklyn, N.Y also did double duty providing Raekwon with instrumentals for his set. Although they were greeted with a luke-warm response for their original set ,the band quickly won over the ears of heads after rendering their versions of Rza’s classic beats.

Raekwon opened his set with Heaven and Hell, which was greeted by a sudden aroma of burning leaves. Rae expressed his love for the fans and urged them to bare with the quality of the mics. At one point he led them in a 30 second chant of fix the fucking microphone. Once the audio was in place Lex Diamond treated Wu heads to verses of his absent Wu-mates including a tribute to fallen comrade Ol Dirty Bastard.

After running through his older material Rae announced his new situation with Aftermath, which will have production provided by the good doctor and Rza. After wetting the appetite of those longing for another classic the Chef unveiled an acappella version of State of Grace, which will be featured on Only Built for Cuban Linx II. From the looks of things hip hop fans will be eating mighty healthy next year.

Take me back to Chicago Vol 4
Review by Wayne MT

For years the metropolis deemed as the city with big shoulders has puzzled industry insiders looking for the next big thing. Exactly what is the Chicago Sound? Is it the double time flow utilized by artist like Twista, is it the soulful beats and B-Boy inspired scripts of a Common and Kanye. The various styles coming from Chicago's music scene is so eclectic that it truly refuses to be pigeon holed into one formula. Dj Machede and Q & A Entertainment continue the movement with their fourth installment of Take me back to Chicago "Hurry Up and Buy".

This classic Chicago mixx tape kicks off with Que Billah and DJ Machede delivering a public announcement over the New York Shit beat for consumers to hit the books more and to get off that T.V shit. Wild 100's emcee Mikkey delivers a solid cut with La La. The former Cash Money Recording artist takes a jab at his former label with lines like "Come on Baby lets do the math/This is Cash Money right/why you short on the cash".

Another bright spot on the mixx tape comes via Big Wiz. On the track I Don’t Give a Fuck Wiz excels delivering the ghetto commentary with brutally honest conversation about unemployment, obvert and subtle racism, crime and token paper leaders. Hate to be so negative / Don’t blame me blame it on bush /Blame it on Oprah talking that mush / Blame it on Jesse he so puss / he just pull he don’t push..

Take me Back 2 Chicago Volume 4 delivers 25 solid tracks of Chicago talent with appearances by signed and unsigned artist. Music Fans should Hurry Up and Buy.
