Influences: Oh my god! where do I begin? In my own chronological order it would have to start with, Sesame Street, the '1,2 3, 4,5' song, also the one that starts with the lyric 'half way up the stairs' these songs were to kick start me into toddler music heaven.
My mind then weirdly jumps to George Benson's version of 'Nature Boy'?!
I then fell in love with the music of Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills and Nash followed by a chaser of Julian Cope's album 'Fried" and Jesus and the Mary Chain's album 'Psychocandy'I learnt to play air guitar to Pink Floyd's 'Wish you were here' followed by a crash course in air saxophone to Charlie Parker. There is a track by Stevie Winwood when he was in Traffic, on an album called 'When the eagle fly's' that blows me away.( cant remember th etitle though as it takes sooo long for the song to start :-)
There is an amazing track by Joe Henry called the Richard Pryor Address, if you have not heard it, you must, when the sax comes in, it melts the heart.I am in love the music of George Fame ( What an cool guy.... I was lucky enough to get him to play on my album. He walked into the studio and the 1st lines he said to me was "Hmm, I have been here before, thats it, I remember now, there was me, Bob Dylan and Hendrix over in that corner having a jam."! (a simple hello Joel would have been have been nice :-)I love the production of Imogen Heap and her lyric from Hide and Seek about crop circles in the carpet, is genius, also think Cornelius is one of the best producers around.MUM from Iceland are one of my all time favorite bands.Apart from that, I have been lucky enough to be around some amazing people in music. There is a lot of behind the scenes studio soul searching, that you and I dont get to hear. Most of these guys will never release a record and do it for the love of music. These people are my true influenses, Muchos respect to Stretch from the Underwolves.
thats about it for now Jx
