About Me

Insmouth packed up in Veliko Turnovo,Bulgaria back in 1993. Even at that early stage of existence the band almost immediately became a huge local attraction with its thrashy and sometimes a bit punkish sound with anthem singalong choruses and vast soloing. The scene was growing stronger. There were older bands like Tornado and Succubus and younger ones like The Pits, DoDo, Neverland and many more, but amongst all Insmouth were somewhat destined to outlive the local syndrome and after hard touring and recording demos for almost 5 years, insmouth became one of the most promising young Bulgarian metal acts. Initially influenced by bands like Sepultura, Metallica and The Almighty, in 1997 the band moved into more modern and expressive approach in vein of Biohazard, Pantera and Korn. In 1998 they recorded a self-financed album, which attracted attention from several Bulgarian independent labels. Finally the band was picked up by Wizard and 3D Freak Accelerator hit the shelves of musical stores in the early spring of 1999. The effect of the debut album was inevitable. They still consider it one of the most important metal albums in Bulgaria. Although the band completely changed their musical approach and image, new and more open-minded young fans saluted insmouth as the first nu-metal band in Bulgaria. Actually it was the right time and the right place for Vihar, Ico, Stiff, Milen and Acho. They had never consider themselves nu-metal, so in the next year, after having some great support gigs for bands like Suicidal Tendencies and Pyogeneis, they focused on recording. Being mistakenly labeled as nu, insmouth were eager to prove their roots with lara-croft EP and suddenly founf themselves in the middle of hype. A successful 10 days tour in Germany proved that insmouth were not only capable of writing good songs, but also proficient and reliable tour act and party animals. But in the dawn of the new millennium insmouth slowly began to lose control over bad habits and personal differences. When Ico and Acho were fired, Vihar, Milen and Stiff decided to go on as a four piece and invited Plamen to take the bass. Then he was replaced by Romi in 2002. At that time insmouth had already moved from their birthplace Turnovo to Sofia. Critically acclaimed by media as “the best Bulgarian metal act”, insmouth were suffering the biggest pressure in their carrier. They were chosen to support Soulfly on their first gig in Bulgaria. Their last album Cross Over The Crossover was recorded in Budapest, Hungary in the same studio where Superbutt had done theirs. Due to Romi’s engagements Crossover bass guitar sessions were distributed between Vihar and Plamen, who joined the band onece again for the gig at Pepsi Sziget, Hungary. Then the band finally folded. Vihar married his Brasilian girlfriend Cris and left for Sao Paolo, Milen quit drumming completely, Romi and Stiff (also married his girlfriend Maya in between) formed Redrum later on. In the meanwhile Wizard decided to release 3D Freak again, this time with bonus tracks from the band’s very first demos. Reunion issues had not been discussed yet, but only future can tell will the legendary band rise again from the ashes or not.
