To all my Detroit artists who are trying to get airplay:
I need y'all to understand a few things. There are almost as many artists as there are households in Detroit. If I was to write down every Detroit artist I've encountered, worked with, played or knew, it would literally be in the thousands. On myspace, I get so many messages a day that I can only read the messages and try to respond to as many as possible. Most messages ask me to go to pages & listen to songs. I actually make attempts to do it, but most pages take so long to open (even pages with no graphics). Now, I'm getting a lot of artists asking about being interviewed on the show. To be real, I have not seen where this has helped any artists...so I'm not gonna stop the interviews, but I'm gonna be even more selective about whom I interview. {side note: whenever you DO get an interview on the show, LEAVE THE ENTOURAGE IN THE CAR. Let them listen in the ride, that way, they can hear what the world hears}
As far as your songs, TJ & I get so many that it's impossible to hear them all! But I need you to stay on us & keep sending the songs -- it's the only way that they'll be heard. Now, for those of you who send messages asking how to get a song played, the information has been on two of my myspace pages, and my JLB page. I will now post it again:
TO GET YOUR SONG PLAYED ON "WHAT'S NEXT ON THE MENU"You must mail or email your song.
To mail your song, send a CD to:
645 Griswold
Suite 633
Detroit, MI
48226
Attn: DJ DDT - or
Attn: TJ the Trouble Man - or
Attn: WNOTM
To email your song, send it (along with Artist name, EACH song title, clean version, dirty version, instrumental, snippet, bio & contact person's info) to
[email protected] (side note: it is preferred if you use www.yousendit.com to send your music). First of all, the artist HAS TO BE FROM THE METRO DETROIT AREA, and the music should be GREAT HIP HOP or R&B MUSIC! Don't send anything that YOUR BOYS or FAMILY say sound good! That doesn't matter! Your people are just happy to see you doin' somethin'... Get some people who don't know you to tell you how it sounds, and see what they say about it. Take it to some street DJs, try it out at some clubs and see if they like it...that's what matters.
IF YOUR SONG IS NOT GOOD, OR NOT QUALITY, WE WILL TELL YOU, AND THEN TELL YOU WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. SO IF YOU CANNOT TAKE CRITICISM, DO NOT SEND IT TO US! Get your music mixed as best as possible. Why? Because your music has to compete against 50 Cent, Jay-z, Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Lil' Jon, Jermaine Dupri, Young Jeezy, etc...so that's how good it has to sound. I don't mean that you should sound LIKE them, but your sound QUALITY should be just as high a quality as them! I'm dead serious about that!!!!
