The Artist Press Kit (Demo Package)
Press Kits are used a lot in the music industry. Not only are they sent to record labels in hopes of getting signed but they are also used when trying to get on a tour, pick up a manager, or let the media know who you are. It's the first impression people in the music industry will get of you and your music.
Things your Press Kit should include:
Biography - Keep it short. Who you are and what's going on with the act. No more then one page. Bio write-ups are something that we specialize in.
Photography - 8" x 10" is Standard. They should be “printable†and “digital.†The pictures should be professional looking. Your promo shots should also encompass the essence of the act and the image you're going for. Candid snap shots don’t make the kind of impression needed to advance in an extremely competitive industry. We like to use technology and graphic design to make images look larger than life since this is a very visual industry.
Press Clips/Achievements - This should include all notable achievements. This includes chart positions, number of CDs sold, big bands you have opened for, number of downloads, City and States you have toured in etc. No more than one page. If you don’t have any notable achievements we will get creative.
CD - Should be as professional looking and sounding as possible. You only get one chance to make a good impression and you don't want to blow it with a studio demo in a paper sleeve.
Personalized Web Site – You want to be able to control the way people view your music. Having a MySpace account is a good networking tool but it won’t sell you as being a serious artist. Even if you have a MySpace account, you should be directing viewers to your own web site where you can better market and sell your product. Just like an official business
