Band Members: Cavin & Alisa started to write together when Alisa was 12 years old. Cavin wrote these lyrics "What would you say - if I told you I love you?..." Seven years later they were on their way to California (through Charlie Wilson's influence with Lonnie Simmons). They signed to the Total Experience Production Company, and through them, Mercury Records. Through that union came two "top ten" singles. The biggest being Don't Stop the Music. We had a chance to meet and hang out with some of the greatest entertainers in the world, and we fiinally had a chance to meet our shining stars, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder! We did several sold out concerts on several tours with acts like the Sisters Sledge, Kool & the Gang, Slave, Carl Carlton, The Time, Gap Band, Goodie, James Brown and many more!Total Experience eventually moved us all to RCA Records where we recorded top ten songs like Guilty, I Wouldn't Lie to You, I'll Be There, and Be A Winner (co-written by my brother Troy). After moving from California, Y & P moved to Dallas and formed their band there. We also started a music production company (Yarbrough & Peoples Productions) where we continue to try and help shape the future of these young people. We have rappers like Lon-G, Killa B, and ActtBadd - all of whom you will be hearing about very shortly! The production company also writes television and radio commercials and ads as well as songs for several different genres of music. In addition to studio work and concerts, Y & P have delved in several instances into theatre. We are now in production of Blind Lemon Blues, which has already made an enormous impact in Europe as well as in the south. Next year (2007), in February, the production will be "off Broadway" in New York at the York Theatre. We are very excited!!We still keep in touch with original band members and friends like Louis Cabaza, Jimi Macon, Victor Hill, Robert Whitfield, Raymond Calhoun, Penny Ford, etc., and we hook back up for concerts...or just hang out and do music. Our current band members are: Tony Blaine (Musical Director) - Plays Keyboards Mark Harper Guitar Jason (JT) Thomas Drums Bernard Wright Keyboards Ray Flippen (Flip) Bass Guitar Ron "Wacko" Price Percussions Luquikyna (Jay) Punch Background Torinique (Tori) Stewart Background Carol Markes Background *In addition, Alisa & Cavin both play keyboards
Influences: Cavin & I share quite a few "common" influences...such as the love for God and family, and the influence that our former pastor - Elder Edward Calloway (RIP). I was first influenced musically by my mother and father - Virginia and Luther Peoples. Both played the piano and mother plays the harmonica as well. All of my sisters and brothers play instruments and sing. Since I am the youngest girl, I looked over all of their shoulders while they were playing the piano! Gladys Knight has always been my favorite singer! Cavin's family is also very musical, and his father - Oscar Yarbrough sang like a bird! We have other wonderful influences in our musical backgrounds. Greats like Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Michael McDonald and Gospel Greats like Mattie Moss Clark (who directed us in the COGIC Mass Choir), Sis. Annie Hogan (The Hums), Ernest Gray, Patrick Henderson...oh, we could name quite a few!! And finally, Lonnie Simmons influenced and enthused us in our writing and presentation of our talents. We thank all of you for the time and effort that you gave to us, and the wonderful music that you passed on to us...so we can pass on to others. God Bless you!Alisa & Cavin Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Click here to make Falling Objects Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome Welcome
Sounds Like: People say that I sometimes remind them of Gladys Knight (I wouldn't mind at all!) They also say that Cavin is a mixture of Donny Hathaway and StevieWonder (Who'da thunk it!) I say we sound like Lois and Cavin...:)
