About Me

I've been back in OK now for a whole year after an almost 4 year stint in Northern CA. It is good to be back home on Sooner soil but I do admit that I miss the beautiful CA weather and landscape. You can never get tired of looking at flowers and rolling hills...flat pasture land, yes. We're toying with the idea of retiring in that little CA valley. Who knows? I married Tony right out of high school and we immediately began our family. Almost 25 years later, we have 5 beautiful kids. Since I started the mommy gig really young, I didn't have the opportunity to go to college back then, so I'm doing it now. Well, I mean, I would be, if I actually got serious about it. Let's just say I'm enrolled in Master's Divinity School to pursue a degree in Family Counseling!

My Interests

Well, after 23 years of marriage, I must say my husband still interests me. Mostly because I am so amazed at how he can be completely predictable and yet so random at the same time! Aside from that game, there's the kids. With having so many in such a long stretch of time, there's always something interesting going on with them! And after the kids, well, then I hopefully have time for my other interests! I love reading! I also love collecting church cookbooks, that's the best food there is! I enjoy music and movies and people watching.

I'd like to meet:

My great-aunt Julia- she was my maternal grandmother's sister. I only saw her in pictures and heard stories about her. She was a no-nonsense, strong, nuturing Belgian woman. Mary and Martha- they were sisters whom Jesus visited in their home. Mary sat at Jesus's feet and listened to him and left Martha alone in the kitchen to prepare the meal. I have some questions for both of those ladies!

Music:

I'm a country girl at heart, having been raised on Bob Wills, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams. I enjoy all country music, even the new edgy people like Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson. Then there's my rebel side that enjoys a little hip-hop/rap. My favs there are Nelly ( I would hang up the poster of him that I own, only that would send the wrong message to my hubby, I don't desire Nelly, I just want to adopt him!) and Destiny's Child. And of course, there's the side of me that completely loves contemporary Christian music such as Fernando Ortego (if you ever need your soul soothed, listen to him) and Nicole C. Mullens (that girl can sing!) And then there's the oldies that my children simultaniously love/hate such as Barry Manilow, the Eagles, the Bay City Rollers, Bob Seger, Dr. Hook, even John Denver!

Movies:

I love light hearted comedies, sweet movies. My all time favorite movie is My Best Friend's Wedding. I threatened my child's well-being over that movie once. Ask Natasha, she'll tell you.

Television:

I have to admit that I am a reality show junkie. My all time favorite is The Bachelor/Bachelorette. I don't know why. I just love seeing which person sucks in the bachelor/bachelorette and then celebrating when a nice person wins. . I also love Wife-Swap (I would NEVER do that!). Isabella and I watch Super Nanny together. And then there's American Idol and Nashville Star. See? I'm a junkie!

Books:

I LOVE reading! My favorite authors are Elizabeth Berg: The Art of Mending, Open House; and Jeanne Ray: Step, Ball, Change and Eat Cake.

My Blog

There's a first time for everything!

Something happened this week that I never dreamed could have happened.  All the years I have been alive and can recall memories, this has never happened.  The odds are so against it.  I...

It's the little things

It's funny how a simple little thing can make a person so happy.  For Bella, it was a new jump rope purchased this weekend.  For me, it was a recipe card holder, crafted by Natasha.&nbs...

Who knew a princess or two could make a girl so happy?

Yeah, who knew?  For the last two years Isabella has been longing for this particular set of Disney Princess dolls at the Disney store.  Because of the situation in our lives, not being sett...

Hats and more hats

Yesterday I went to the May Luncheon at my church and heard a fabulous lady speaking about hats.  It was sort of like a history lesson, a Bible study and a stand up comedy routine rolled into one...
