About Me

B.S.O.R.E. aka the Bastard Sons Of Richie Evans came into existence in mid 2006 for the sole purpose of participating on a tribute album of recordings of the songs of the late great Buddy Blue, lead guitarist and singer with the original Beat Farmers, and latterly The Farmers, who died tragically in April 2006 at the pitifully young age of 48. Buddy was also the itinerant figurehead and driving force behind a much-loved guestbook on his website, www.buddyblue.com, which had developed a reputation for a mix of unrivalled musical snobbery, filth so low it couldn't make it up to the gutter, insane political rantings, but above all else, a worldwide community of a few hundred people with the same basic premise - they were huge fans of Buddy and his music. One such member of this guestbook was, and still is, Richie Evans, aka The Flying Hippo, who tentatively suggested a tribute album, and it kinda gathered a momentum all of it's own from there. Basically, the idea was for regular contributors and allied friends of the guestbook to record versions of Buddy's songs to make a lasting tribute to our hero. Richie decided in his wisdom that he did not want tired, cynical, old players to be involved in his two allocated songs, and instead opted for the impetuosity of youth. All of the band members have been known to him since childhood, and in fact, the Hippo has played in bands with some of their parents at various stages. Anyway - B.S.O.R.E. just happen to be..........TOMMY MUGGLETON - lead guitar. Still only 20 at the time of writing, Tommy has been playing guitar for barely 5 years, but has been steadily building up an awesome reputation as the psychotically deranged vocalist and guitarist with up and coming Glasgow band, Angry Monk. Tommy is perhaps the most musically discerning player in the band, and unlike Richie will not tolerate any old shite in his cd player, although to be fair the stuff he does like tends to be well worth a listen and his advice is invaluable to the average philistine- he recently changed Richie's ambivilant attitude towards The Pixies forever. His guitar playing is at times terrifyingly inspired, and never more so than in a live setting. AND he can only get better....KEITH BOWDITCH - The Phat Bass. Just turned 21, Keith is Tommy's lifelong partner(actually that's a lie)but they have pretty much been joined at the hip since childhood. Also one half of a pair of brothers working on this project, Keith is a solid backbone to any band. He also plays bass with Angry Monk, and although he bears a staggering resemblance to his banjo-playing father, he seems to have certain something that the chicks love, despite smelling pretty bad. Can always be relied upon to find a mystery chord that is eluding everyone during rehearsals. CRAIG BOWDITCH - rhythm guitar. At 18, going on 19, the baby of the group, but by far the coolest. He has the long-haired foppish look that older babes want to mother, and in some cases molest, and the introverted Elliot Smith/Nick Drake singer-songwriter thing going on that causes a multitude of babes his own age to have major hots for him. Despite so many people wanting to work with him, it's as a solo performer that Craig is developing his reputation. JOE SMILLIE - drums. Although only 22, Joe is a veteran performer, and is in fact the only member of B.S.O.R.E. to have played in a band with Richie in a paid capacity, in the short-lived but glorious Twelve Pound Round, when he was waaaay underage to be playing in pubs. Joe is a member of Glasgow's Opal Sky, who also have a rapidly improving reputation. Slight of build, but capable of sounding like rolling thunder when drumming - he was the only drummer that Richie would have dreamed of using for these recordings. And finally, RICHIE EVANS - vocals. The Hippo saw no point in adding a cursory extra guitar to proceedings when faced with such an abundance of talent. Long in the tooth and old enough to be father of any of his Bastard Sons, Richie's love of Buddy's music first came to the fore courtesy of one Jack Watt, who introduced him to the Beat Farmers. So much so that the Hippo left a steady gig with Scottish folk-punk heroes The Gaels to form Powderfinger with Alec Galloway and Davy Nicol, who will also appear on the Buddy tribute with their band, The Lazarenkos. Powderfinger turned out some impressive country-rock standards, but the pinnacle of their set was a cover of Neil Young's Powderfinger, which Buddy and the Beat Farmers made their own on their classic version on the band's Glad and Greasy mini LP. And lets not forget producer ROB MUGGLETON - father of Tommy, and former banjo player in The Dixie Chickens with Richie, Rob kindly took time out from making millions with his A/V company and playing bass in the world's finest Robert Earl Keen tribute band,Keen, to produce the two tracks for us - wothout him it would have been impossible. So what now?? Well - the songs now reside in San Diego, California, where in due course they will will be joined by other contributions from as far apart as Germany, Finland, more from Scotland and also a variety of entries from the USA. Hopefully - things will be sorted out by early 2007 and a lasting tribute to Buddy Blue will come to fruition. Watch this space..........
