About Me

Thanks for checking out my profile at myspace. My name is Barry Saunders. I grew up in Sanford, Maine. I am a Maine based jazz saxophonist, classical saxophonist, saxophone teacher and improvisor. I was a jazz performance major at the University of Southern Maine. I have studied the classical saxophone literature quite a bit and perform often with the Portland Symphony and New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestras. I am also an active jazz musician and improvisor. Most music I perform involves improvisation, some of it structured and "traditional" some not. I play soprano sax, alto sax, tenor sax and baritone sax.In March I was awarded a Maine Alliance for Arts Educators grant. I will be using these funds to work with the great jazz pianists Michael Cain and Art Lande! In addition, I am currently the beginning band instructor for Maine School Adminstrative District 71 in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Maine.
