About Me...
Hi, I'm Mark, I'm a DJ and producer based in Newcastle, UK.Anyone who knows me, knows that I live and breathe music, if I'm not playing in a club or bar, you can most often than not find me locked away in my studio.
I've had the pleasure of playing in clubs across the country, supporting some fantastic house DJs including Grant Nelson, Ron Carroll, Kenny Carpenter, Bobby D'Ambrosio, Alistair Whitehead, Lenny Fontana, Russell Small (The Freemasons/Phats & Small), Jeremy Healy... Some superb artists including Jocelyn Brown, Byron Stingly, Peyton, Kathy Brown, Lisa Millett, Katherine Ellis and also played my part on the Miss Moneypenny's Tour.
You'll normally see me spinning funky and soulful house, but if it's a kinda laidback night it's time to dig out a few soul, funk and disco classics.
By day I'm also Creative Director of Hush! An award winning advertising and marketing agency geared towards radio and the youth market.
As an audio producer, my work has been heard regularly on the UKs biggest radio stations including Capital FM, Kiss 100, The Galaxy Network & XFM, to name only a handful; As well as the audio I've produced for TV, Playstation/X-Box games, even a port-a-loo slap bang in the middle of Manchester!! Long story...
History...
I've been a passionate music lover and collector for as long as I can remember, having been given my first turntable and a bunch of old 7" singles at the age of about 4 or 5... Since then music has, undoubtedly been the biggest and most consistent part of my life... Through thick and thin, it's always been there. My tastes have taken twists and dives, through all kind of genres (take a look at the 10,000 songs on my iPod and you'll see what I mean!!) But it seems anything with a funky bassline seems to dominate my collection.
On leaving school, I landed a job at a local radio station, which really opened my ears as I began ploughing through the extensive back catalogue of classic tunes.
At 19, it was time to move on... To University in Bradford...
During my time living in West Yorkshire I freelanced for a number of radio stations including Galaxy 105 in Leeds. I also managed the student radio station, RamAir which went on to become the Best Student Radio Station in England in the BBC Radio 1 Awards.
Whilst presenting the drive-time show on RamAir one cold Wednesday afternoon in 1998, a listening nightclub owner called into the station and offered me a job there and then - I started that night! It wasn't long before I was playing 5 gigs a week including sell out gigs at the University's own 1500 capacity venue...
After graduating, it was off to Bristol to work as a full time producer for Galaxy Network, before being head hunted by the Capital Radio Group to manage their production studios across the country.
Since returning to the North-East, I have played in countless clubs and bars, including Sea Nightclub, Hoko-10, Stereo, Bar Beyond and The Apartment in Newcastle, AquaBar and the Attic in Middlesbrough, as well as establishing the soulful/funky house brand, Suite56.
Since leaving the Capital Radio Group (now part of GCap Media) in July 2005 I established Hush - a recording studio and audio production facility, concentrating mainly on advertising and marketing for brands including Hed Kandi, Miss Moneypennys and Retro. Visit www.hushsound.co.uk for more info.
