The Heptanes

It would have been late in the last century, as I recall, that the "musicians", collectively known as the Heptanes, moved onto the scene.Formed intially to unsurp the free hops of local tavern owners, it weren't but a short sprint from inspiration to full fledged house rocker. The group first fired up under the moniker "The Surreal McCoys" to kick out some rockabilly favorites at a dive in their hometown of Huntington,WV.Despite these humble but incendiary beginnings, the tree-o just added a little distortion, a whole lotta volume, and before my eyes, water turned into wine, bread became cash,and even his holiness the Pope showed up to give his blessing...Roman style.The band has been described as a late model version of the old, old school.While looking like grease monkeys in preachers pants, the three have created a manic montage of pyschobilly,country,punk, and even a little ska.Although the band chooses to play its own lovin', drinkin'& racin' inspired original material, versions of tunes by such members of the hillbilly hierarchy as Hasil Adkins, Hank Williams,Sr. and Screamin' Jay Hawkins often get retooled to fit into the set list. The band has shared the stage with HankIII,Dick Dale, and BR549 just to name a few.It's this infamous low gear musicality coupled with a high speed on ice stage show that garnered the band a regional following, consisting of dancin' girls to rednecks to folks that like that alternative music.
