i eat your witty repartee for dinner, with a spoon

About Me

i'm unique just like everyone else. loud on the outside, quiet on the inside. i prefer loud friends and quiet partners in crime. i'm crass and polite, sometimes at the same time. you've probably met me two or nine times and didn't even realize it. i'm a smart girl that knows a little about a lot of things, but i'm the kind of person that likes to surround myself with geniuses and artists to make my life feel sublimely mundane.
i have a slight lisp, a messy room, i bite my fingers even when i'm not nervous, and sometimes i even stall my car on purpose just to piss off the person behind me. i'm also prone to fall prey to 'creative exaggeration.' go figure.
yeah, i know you want to want to know me.

My Interests

i read, i write, and i enjoy both. i guess what i'm trying to convey is that i'm probably not illiterate.
i love food and drink. when i'm not eating or drinking, i'm probably thinking of the next thing i'd like to eat or drink, how i or someone else will make it, where, when, etc. i even love grocery shopping.
i'm a bit of a barfly. it's not my primary vocation, but it is my primary vacation. i don't dance, but i can pull a mean barstool spin.
i like people. i like to talk to them, i like to play with them (nicely, of course), i like to make friends with them, and hell... i like myself, too.
movies and music are of course a part of my life, but i'm not perfectly well-versed. it's fine with me as long as it's fine with you -- i like to learn from others.
the finer things in life: family, friends, surprises, sitting outside and sharing coffee and a smoke with good company (smoke not required), naps, pho for lunch, slurpees, going to shows, dirty tanqueray martinis, laughing at the obvious, inside jokes, crushes, dining out, cooking, scouring thrift stores, road trips, adventures, stories, drinking wine and eating cheese not just for the sake of having 'wine and cheese' -- being cheesy and not apologizing for it.

I'd like to meet:

i like off-the wall people who are comfortable enough with themselves to not have to announce their elitism. hey, if you're really as cool as you think you are, you don't need to parade it -- we'll already know. so basically laid-back, fun people of all types. be that person who can make me laugh, cry, cry from laughter, and laugh while crying. be that person who likes to go out and be social. be that person who will curl up into a shell and watch bad teevee with me.
i'd love to meet me some foodies, self-taught culinarians, mixologists, oenphiles or those with said aspirations. because then i know we'd have something to talk about.

Music:

current music in rotation in my car: band of horses, nada surf, asobi seksu, spoonn, ambulance ltd, interpol, i am kloot, the clash, elbow, rocky votolato, bowie, khoiba, placebo, ted leo, gang of four...
disclaimer: this list is not all-inclusive, nor is it a completely accurate portrait of my musical preferences. i'm just too lazy to list everything i'm into.
i'll tell ya what... i'm not much of a hip-hop/rap girl. i don't have anything against you if you do, it's just one thing we won't have in common. i go for more of the indie, rock and roll, folk, new wave, punk, electropop, singer/songwriter sort of thing.

Movies:

a ton of intellectual movies because i'm an intellectual and like all good intellectuals, i hate to laugh.
or in the real world, i'd say wet hot american summer.

Television:

the food network (food porn), lost (the x-files meets survivor meets days of our lives porn), the first 48 (always wanted to be a homicide detective porn), the twilight zone (black and white porn), mythbusters (nerdcore porn), the mike hunt show on public access (porn porn).
you may or may not take me seriously, but i'm being at least halfway honest.

Books:

one hundred years of solitude, the souls of black folk, ceremony, travel literature, spanish literature (borges, unamuno, marquez, matute, mas), postmodern lit, brave new world, the martian chronicles, underworld, candide, anything that reads like an awesome song sounds, short fiction, hungover fiction (especially the kind i write), dumb poetry, bitchy zines and Your Favorite Book, assuming i have a crush on you.

an ode, an adieu

today is my idea of a perfect seattle day: crisp, but not cool enough to make me shiver in a light sweater. the ground is wet from the nite before lending everything a clean reflective sheen, but it's...

on sentimentality

i'm a believer in the domino effect from the optimist's point of view. if i begin to regret, to wax nostalgic about what has or could have been, i force myself to be content with where i am now and re...
