Carla's Musical History_______________
Carla began this journey twenty one years ago, at the age of twelve.
She attended Longfellow Elementary School, in Bridgeport,
Connecticut. “Being in a six grade choir†was the beginning for this
upcoming artist. She remembers her sixth grade music teacher,
Mr. David Watson, telling her “she had a voice that reminded him
of Stephanie Mills and Stacy Latisaw.†Who would have known that
Carla R. Mercer, a/k/a Carla R. Fleming at the time, would
be able to share her God giving gift with the world?

Carla knew she wanted to be a singer the day after her first
performance. It was in the sixth grade talent show. She performed
three main parts in the performance “We Are The Worldâ€. After
accomplishing the task set before her; she knew she would be able
to establish her own gifts.

Carla wanted to give part of her heart to the world through her
music and melodious voice. She recalls the first time she shared
her voice and allowed God to use her in church. She stated, “I was
so nervous; I thought my voice would crack and cause the whole
entire congregation to laugh.†Instead, she recalls God showing up
and using her as a vessel in the service. “The spirit was really there
that Sunday afternoon.†Since then, Carla has sang for various
audiences.

She recalls singing once in 1985 for the Mayor of Bridgeport. She
loves music so much she thought after starting a family and having
children it would never be possible for her to share her gift with the
world. Always encouraged to continue pursuing the dream by many.

Carla will never forget her best friend, Portia Hunt’s voice in her
ear constantly encouraging her to keep trying until it happens.
Carla’s desire has always been to allow God to use her more to
usher His people into His presence.
