Things you’re grateful for and appreciate more and more everyday. The people you’ve connected with along the way. The moments you couldn’t wouldn’t shouldn’t want to change. Hey, what’s the point anyways? Its like that saying is just a trick, because if not for the past, the you, who is you, would not exist, so let’s get serious about this. The presence that has existed within you as a result of your experience. The darling wifey. The beautiful kids. The morning after exhausting arguments from discussing the kids, the neglect, the disrespect, acknowledging the mishaps, but remembering you have a beautiful marriage to realizing you avoided the trap. You didn’t linger on the possibilities. You made your own – a reflection of how you’ve grown to be the man you are through the strength of those closest to you, through the ones who mean the most to you. From a childhood full of wonders, dreams, and fantasies of how you thought adulthood would be - to a man providing the foundation for his children to claim the same things. Those “When I grow up…†phrases, which end in things you know may or may not happen, but you know that they deserve to live in the moment as you did, so that maybe when they grow, they can look back and say could’ve, should’ve, would’ve…Naw…couldn’t, shouldn’t, wouldn’t…change...a thing…because if I did, I wouldn’t be here…I wouldn’t be me.
