Fixing the broken and corrupt California prison system is one of my top priorities.
We need to turn the system over to a Federal Receiver so we can get rid of the corruption. CCPOA (California Correctional Peace Officers Association), the union for the prison guards, is way too powerful and has benefits that no one else could possibly get. In return, they do everything in their power to intimidate prisoners and their families.
The Board of Prison Hearings is another group that needs to be abolished. The lifers that have been released just in the last few years since Arnold took office have the best recidivism rate, yet they can't get a second chance. Those going through the system doing life on the installment plan have a 70% recidivism rate, lifers have a 0% recidivism rate. I think perhaps they're releasing the wrong people!
Others who are interested in fixing a very broken system. Particularly other activists, lifer wives, or others with an interest in the legal aspects of fixing the system.
