ABOUT ACACIA J
Acacia J wants to use her voice to speak for her generation.
Her message: “You can be what you want to be, if you believe in your heart and have faith, then you can do it."
Acacia Jennings, 15, is a young singer with the talent and morals that will take her to the top. She has a plan and a platform to reach her singing goal. She wants to sing clean R&B and focus her music towards young people and the issues they face in their lives.
“I want to sing to other teenagers my age about things we can relate to,†said Jennings. “The songs I want to sing should help speak to the issues that teenagers face today.â€
Born Feb. 13, 1993 in Austin, Texas, Jennings started singing at the age of eight years old. Jennings would walk around her mother’s house singing. Believing she could sing, Jennings’ mother, Patricia, encouraged her early on to pursue her dream – if singing was what she wanted to do.
“I got excited when my mom encouraged me to sing at an open mic night at church. I remember singing, “The Lord Is Mine†to a crowded room full of people. Afterwards, everyone applauded and I was truly happy that everyone accepted it.â€
"I was blessed to have good vocal teachers, in particular, Mr.Edwin Hardin and Mrs.Delores Vanisko, from the Shining Starsz Organization in Round Rock, TX," Acacia said.
Since the summer of 2004, Jennings has stepped into the bright lights and onto center stage. She treated Central Texas audiences as a solo vocalist at the 2008 Urban Music Festival; she has been featured on News 8 Austin, The Chronicle, The Austin American Statesman and on KAZI 88.7 radio station for a live performance.
Jennings sang the “National Anthem†at a home game for the Austin Toros, Austin Sheriff’s Department, and was honored with a special Trip to Washington, D.C. to sing at The Capital on June 16, 2007.
Jennings sings the “National Anthem,†holiday and religious songs. She prefers clean, teenage R&B music, but has an appreciation for all types of sounds including her favorite singer, Gladys Knight. She was also a member of the Urban Soul band in 2007, which was a new initiative sponsored by a program called the Soul Tree Collective.
Acacia has also performed at Mary Hardin-Baylor University, Austin Community College (ACC), The End Zone Club (University of Texas)

She was also a member of a band by the name of Urban Soul in 2007 which was a new initiative that was sponsored by a program called the Soul Tree Collective. The Soul Tree Collective was formed as a vehicle to audition, mentor and develop a new R&B/Soul group of aspiring young musicians. The plan was to create a band that would debut on the Urban Music Festival main stage during that program year. After making a decision to pursue a solo career, she has had many performance engagements. She’s performed at Austin Bergstrom Int’l Airport, and was awarded a proclamation from Mayor Will Wynn of Austin, TX in June 2008.
When she is not practicing for her next performance, Jennings enjoys shopping, reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family, friends, and youth church.
