"Life has all the answers. What we need are better questions."
- graffitti in Joe's Generic Bar (RIP) 6th Street, Austin, TX
Compiling music and life experiences from Mobile and Tuscaloosa (AL); Austin (TX); and Minneapolis -- Texabamasota Brackish is a one-man band made up of one man (Chip Walton) his guitars (Uncle Walter [a Martin Goya series acoustic] and Ol' Blue [an Artisan lap steel]), a couple of slides, an acoustic pickup, a Line 6 amplifier, and a mercurial sense of songwriting.
Chip has played in many groups over the last 14 years (from emo-rock, to trippy jam, to jazzy funk). He has been playing solo for the last seven years. Those band and individual experiences have conglomerated and evolved into a style he likes to call 'Texabamasota Brackish,' a hodge-podge of blues, bluegrass, emo, reggae and folk rock.
Texabamasota Brackish thrives on wordplay, interesting hooks, cool open tunings and complex (patterns) songwriting. Songs tend to deal with random real-life issues such as sweet-tea addiction, roadtrips, arson, insomnia-derived insanity, fleeing Texas Democrats, walking through the biting cold on a winter's day, swimming holes, and regrettable exes.
Texabamasota is extremely proud to have played two South by Southwest Music Festivals (2004 - headlined the acoustic stage at the Austin Indie Alliance showcase; 2005 - Lovejoy's Brew Pub showcase).
The song "Texas BBQ Blues" is a part of the special features on the DVD release of the documentary BBQ: A TEXAS LOVE STORY. It's amazing journey through barbecue joints throughout Texas. www.bbqfilm.com
In reality, Chip is a television news producer / field producer for Fox 9 News in Minneapolis. So when you hear him yapping about newshounding you better believe it. Holla at your boy! He also has a personal myspace page found under Texabamasota Brackish's friends as "Chip Walton." Already!
I created my own profile using nUCLEArcENTURy.COM and you should too!

A song of admiration about living in Austin. Subarus, spring-fed pools, homebrews, breaking news, the county's blue. You know!
