While most teenage boys are competing in school sports or chasing girls, Maurice Donte Edwards, formerly known as DJ Punchline was consumed by the turntables. Reminiscent of the 80's b-boy djs spinning records out of crates, Punchline sacrificed all of his free time to honing his craft as first a rapper, then a DJ before his teenage years even began. Punchline quickly adapted to the methods of Djing; from spinning and scratching to eventually blending and mixing. Born in the small town of Kinston, North Carolina, August 29, 1988, where everyone knows your name and face, gathering notoriety was not a difficult task. Quickly he was pinned the "Youngest in Charge" from his performances at sold out High School parties, talent shows and proms.
"I been doing parties since I was 15 but then I got a gig on Saturdays at a club for the teenage crowd and they loved me. All day in school, all I could focus on was what records I would play at the end of the week. Some kids wanted to get high and skip class. My high was music and making it to Saturday!"
It wasn't long before Punchline's work ethic was acknowledged by North Carolina's elite DJs, DJ Barry Bee and DJ Skee Money. It was through these chance meetings that DJ Punchline began to realize DJing was not only a skill but also a business. He started his own label, PRC and signed his first artist,_Moe Soundz. It was by joining their organization, Nitram Knarf DJs, that allowed Punchline to travel statewide spinning for adult hip-hop clubs and meeting celebrity recording artists, such as Trey Songz, Bruce Bruce, Crank Squad, and Rich Boy.
"At first I had to carry the crates and warm the crowd up but every now and then Barry Bee would need a break and let me step in to do my thang. Even though I was with older people partying, I never felt like I wanted to join in and drink and have fun. I just wanted to get better and better so I wouldn't leave the booth."
He was also invited to DJ for Big Daddy Kane's protege', Mica Swain for her birthday party. All this by age 18! Constantly in the studio with his own artist and hosting mixtapes for independent artists, Punchline realized his love for rapping would not fade and began recording rap intros for the hottest Mix station in the Carolinas, 101.9 Kiss FM. and 92.1 Jams. He worked under DJ_Shon B. His intros and commercials would spin all day but no one would recognize it was him because his voice was already so mature. Eventually his raps would get longer and his intros started to sound more like songs. It was around this time, Punchline met Miss Ricki, an independent artist consultant and manager who advised him to not only work harder but work smarter. Network with DJs from all around the country, expand his ear for great music and concentrate on the good and bad of the industry. He began attending music conferences and artist showcases and ran into TJ Chapman, owner of TJsDJs, the largest record pool in the nation and Tony Neal, President of the Core DJs. His witness of their rise from crate carriers to respected businessmen even through failure and setbacks, really placed things in perspective for him. Senior year was drawing near to an end and with the guidance of his mother, Punchline knew in order to be great, one must follow in the shoes of Greatness and have a purpose. Punchline's belief was that no one is greater than God, and by following closely, he will learn his true purpose. And that he did. Shortly after graduation, no longer a boy, becoming a new man, Punchline gave his life to God.
"Without God, life has no purpose. With no purpose, life has no meaning. With no meaning, life has no hope, ya digg?! The old me is dead. The new me is alive. "
Retiring the name DJ Punchline, Maurice now goes by, "MOE Soundz." His passion for music and sounds are vibrant through his gospel raps. But instead of club atmospheres filled with liquor and smoke, Moe Soundz spends his time rapping and motivating the children and young adults. His label name, PRC, which stood for Poole Rd Clique, has been adopted to PRC, Praise Raises Christ. And his motto is "I can't go to Hell cause Hell is too hot for me!"

Through Moe Soundz life experiences at such a young age, from working parties, to clubs and being the youngest on staff at radio stations, to realizing the direction he wants to proceed, this young man is sure to be around for years to come. With dreams and desires so big, his success factor is unquestionable. His love for God, undeniable. His question for the masses..
