"I am the Mayor of Orlando!" That's what Chuck-Zilla will tell anybody that asks him (or doesn't ask him). That kind of confidence is needed in a game full of extroverts,& a city where your music is left field to what the majority listens to. But, it is that same confidence that makes Chuck the fiery spitter he is. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Guyanese parents, Zilla was exposed to different kinds of music very early in life. "The tunes was always on in my house, 24/7. My pops played music at parties and had the biggest record collection, Afrika Bambataa, Third World, Anita Baker, Micheal Jackson...you name it, he had it! "But it was when Pops played Run DMC's "King of Rock" when young Chuck knew Hip Hop was something he wanted to be apart of, even if he didn't end up rapping. The classic became Chuck's official anthem and soon everything he did was DMC influenced. Soon after, the family picked up & moved to East Orange, NJ where Chuck says, he got all his swag from & had the best time of his life. There, he spent the bulk of his adolescent years playing sports, dreaming of soon becoming an animator for Disney, and "doing dumb shit" with his closest friends from his block, Lenox AVE. Ever the nomads, Chuck's mother relocated the family to Florida because of a career opportunity, and Zilla says he was so bored, he taught himself how to rap, "My dudes was starting to do they thing rappin', I couldn't waste the phone bill no more, & the ball court was a serious walk for me". In no time Zilla was entering open mic competitions, & battles everywhere in Central Florida. Among his many achievements, Zilla says battling before a Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick & MC Lyte performance, winning 1st place at N.E.B Entertainment's "Show Jamz 3" showcase competition, & holding the second longest record for wins on pirate radio station 94 Raw's 4:20 Freestyle Session, ("6 weeks,to Migraine's 8 weeks...9/11 fucked up my streak, radio shut down!") were highs weed could never give. Eventually, Chuck was in search of a manager & hooked up with local producer Nathaniel Garretson of Million 1 Stylez and continued to try to build his brand. But unfortunately the two had very different ideals on how to succeed at this music thing, "The nigga was a lying, lazy, fuck! I was an artist doing all the networking, passing out CD's, booking shows, getting locked up doing dumb shit so I could make money to fund this whole shit...nigga's useless, point blank period!" Now, along with cousin Bugz and Camp NoWhere, Chuck-Zilla says he is totally poised to assume the position (pause) that he is desperately aiming for, "The top of this Hip Hop shit." He brings a pleasant mix of lyrical ferocity, humor and word play that has long been abandoned in rap music. After listening to his music, you will definitely know where Chuck-Zilla's confidence comes from.
